Why Does U-God Get A Bad Rap?

I heard him spit some cringe worthy shit on a tim westwood freestyle awhile ago but I can't think of a wack u God verse on a song right now..he usually goes in, just gets outshined alot

I think timing more than anything is the biggest reason, between 36 chambers and wu forever was the prime time for the members to drop their first solos, he didn’t drop till 99 and the Wu movement had cooled down the ruff Ryder’s and the roc had taken over the game by then, taking that long to come out made him look like a non priority amongst the members, if he came out in 94 his career could of went down a completely different path as long as the album delivered which everything Wu related in that time frame was

Same goes for Deck with his career getting side tracked because of the flood, by the time uncontrolled substance came out I won’t say no one cared but the buzz was minuscule compared to what it would have been in that 94-97 time frame, Uncontrolled substance is a good album but it’s forgotten about because he missed the train and his solo career went on to be lackluster, he doesn’t get the bad rap U-God does but if his career went another path not only could we be talking about him as the best in the Wu but I think we could be talking about him as one of the best in the game

U God has some scene stealing verses on Wu joints- Chessboxing, impossible etc and also had an underrated debut in Redemption. Like RZA, his flow is unorthodox. And out of the group, he and Masta Killa as dope as they were, had to be ‘the weakest’ by default.
