Do you think hip hop radio for mature audiences would work?

Shit would be dope if a company like clear channel backs it, it could work. This could open up opportunities for artists to get heard by more people than usual.

I would do something like this

The Roots - The Notic

Q Tip feat. D'angelo - Believe

Talib Kweli - Won't You Stay

Dead Prez - Happiness

Mos Def - Umi Says

Common - Come Close Remix

Shad - Brother

Little Brother - All For You

etc. etc.

When r&b singers music no longer fit regular urban radio, they can always get their music heard from adult r&b stations. That's how the Anthony Hamilton's and Jill Scott's eat. Now imagine if those stations didn't exist for those type of artists? I think it's time hip hop has it's own station specifically for hip hop artists that no longer fit the urban format.

when power 105 came out in NY they were competing with hot 97 by playing mostly "real hip-hop" and it worked for them until they got their ratings up and then they started playing D4L and Lumidee all summer and basically realized that being a close 2nd to hot 97 by playing all the same records was just as profitable.

It's a shame really.

just jam your personal old school cds and tapes support the newer shit if u see that its qaulity thats taking a market right out of mainstream!

I know I thought 105 would be different.

i think those oldie RnB stations will slowly start adding old school hip hop to thier lineup ... especially as the currently disc jockeys get older and move to those formats ..........

i do one of these type shows on the internet every now and then when I have the time.

I mix underground hip hop like Phonte, Zo!, The Cool Kids, Kidz in the Hall, etc, and some local artists from my area, with mainstream artists like Rick Ross, Drake, Frank Ocean, Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Tyrese, Sylena Johnson, etc. I usually throw in an old school hip hop/R&B track on each show.

I'm not paying for the air time, so the site only allows 30 minute shows per broadcast for non-paying customers. But they allow as many shows as you wish per day.

I try to keep it as balanced as possible and I usually stay away from the mainstream music. Every now and then, I'll do something like an all R&B special, or an all strip club music show, but mainly, I stick to that low key stuff.

Most old regular niggas don't continue to listen to their favorite rappers from back in the day though...They grow the fuck up...
That's not altogether true. They just ain't as passionate about music as they once was to the point wherein they bang-out that shit everyday. I'm a huge fan of 90s rap and r&b, but don't play that kind of music on a daily, but I don't even listen to newer shit on a daily.

Now that i think of it there was a station just like that for about 6-7 years in Atlanta. Started in like 2001... Playlist would get pretty repetive, i forget the call #
