Do you think a college education is still necessary to make it in this world?

College degrees are slowly becoming worthless.

At least Bachelors are specifically.

That is because a bachelors is like a high school diploma right now. But if you dont have neither or just one you are behind the curve

Exactly.

Bachelor degrees used to be special because not many people had them back in the day. These days Bachelor degrees are so common that they don't stand out like they used to. Now you need a Masters to get ahead these days. SMH.

Still necessary? It's more necessary than ever before.

I think you can succeed without a college degree, but you're going to waste alot of years trying to attain the experience equivalent to a degree.

a college education isn't absolutely necessary to make it in this world. immigrants with no education come here all the time from fucked up countries and out hustle most americans. shit if you have the determination of an immigrant you could drive a taxi 7 days a week and only take breaks to sleep and make hella money to be honest. but most americans are lazy as fuck.

but one element of college that people sleep on that helps you later in life is learning how to be around all different types of people. shit when i was in school i had a prince from some random ass country in one of my classes. College gives you the opportunity to learn how to be around different types of folks from all backgrounds.

im a leave it at that.

Unless you go Military, or pick up a trade, it's neccesary to have a degree to get a decent job, in most cases. With that being said, there are plenty of people with with Bachelors & even Masters, that can't find decent employment. It all boils down to getting a degree, or trade thats in high demand, or else it's useless. With the route I've taken getting a degree won't be benificial to me, so I wont try to seek one. I went the Military/Govt Job route, where expierience out weighs education.

This sucks. I'm really starting to feel hopeless about this whole career/college thing with everything I read (outside the IC moreso). They say a Bachelor's is unnecessary now, that a Master's is the way to go....some people can't afford all that, damn....they say the one field that I'm good at and sticking with is too competitive and unsure...it's like I'm gonna have to switch to a field I don't give two shits about nor am I good at just to make a damn living in this country....fucking hate this...I really hope I can move out of the US someday and get a job with MY field, my talent and MY hard earned degree elsewhere because the U.S. looks hopeless right now.

Girl, there are a lot of ways to make it if you can't afford College. You just have to be prepared to work a little harder, but you have the Military, Govt/Federal Jobs, and contracting if your willing to live abroad. There are also numerous trades you can pick up. If you're flexible, and willing to work hard, you can do damn near anything, it just depends on how ambitious you are.

I heard that if you go into the military or work a Fed/Gov't job that you can get a career faster because they will pay for it ad they respect the military. Does this apply to any career, like Journalism for example? Also, if you work a fed/gov't job you don't have to go into combat do you?

I'm finishing up my Bachelor's in International Business.Entry level in the field is a Master's you cant even get looked at until you get a PH.D. The shit is discouraging but I'm still pressing on. Can you make it w/o a degree? Hell yeah you can,but you have to be a crafty and motivated person.

Nothing is guaranteed! I know people that have degrees and work at Home Depot. I know a high school dropout that own five restuarants in the three states. It depends on the person. But if you want to succeed in the rat race we call job searching you need a degree to get you over the hump.

I'm gonna say no. College isn't essential.

I was listening to the radio not too long ago, and they were saying how most employers nowadays are looking more for experience and not necessarily a college degree. Most jobs today require a little on-the-job training and work experience; no degree necessary.

As far as I see it, a degree is only good on paper.

I found this site, where the US Department of Labor compiled a list of high-paying jobs that do not require a college education, as much as they do actual experience.

A college degree is not necessary in today's time. Of course society will make you believe that, because they want to be in debt. Now that's not to discourage anyone from getting a degree. If you get a degree in a field that is in high demand you will have a good chance of making something of it. Alot of people who have degrees go into significant debt doing so. If you can't pay for you education outright or pay it off within 4 years after completing your education you might want to go to technical school. Having a TRADE is necessary or starting your own business is a sure fire way to make it.

I have a BA in Sociology and haven't got a job in my field because I have no post degree experience. I have 3 years experience in the field prior to graduating. So I ended up starting my own business.
