I went to see it last night, it was a great film. The only thing i didn't really vibe with was how white women were portrayed as bystanders of the antebellum south. That they didn't have any skin in the game and had their own nefarious shit they were up to.

Besides some scenes at the end. I didn't like how they made white women out to be "nice" to black people. That was complete bullshit.

While white women suffered under the weight of the same patriarchal authority to which slaves were subjected

Just think of how the son inherited his father's property and the plantation after his death...though his mother was still alive and well

White women still had the freedom to vent their fury, albeit on the only people to whom they were superior... Blk ppl

And even with BoN it bothered me a lot seeing white woman seperate young Nat from his mother...only so she could teach him how to parrot the bible and parade him around like a well behaved dog

But yea I think 12 years a slave did a better job showing how white women we rent just bystanders but complicit participants

How did white women "suffer?" You gotta explain that. @desertrain10

Obviously their suffering does not compare to what we have faced...but white women had to answer to white patriarchal authority as slaves during that time

They couldn't vote, because they were thought to be lesser than

They had very little economic prospects

Made less than men

No legal recourse if their husbands were physically abusive

White women didn't vote because white women were not expected to be soldiers. The right to vote is traditionally tied to the obligation of national service. In fact women still aren't expected to fight tho men are. Males when registering to vote are supposed to have signed up for selective service as well.

White women were not slaves, they were a protected class. Let's break down what a slave is. A slave is a human being whose labor is forcibly extracted for little or no compensation for the benefit of a dominant house or society.

White women economic prospects are tied to the economic prospects of their men, their husbands and their sons. They are the beneficiaries of white capitalism without having to put in the work. The reason being is because white women are the sole facilitators of white patriarchy.

For all the shit you throw at the concept of patriarchy, the society with the strongest patriarchy will have the most protected women. It has been established by white society that if you even breathe at a white girl in the wrong way the full force of white patriarchy will come to seek recompense.

In the Black community, that is sans patriarchy you can do damn near anything you want to a Black female: beat them, rape them, abuse them, exploit them, discard them when you done with them. That has also been long established by white patriarchy.

Birth of a Nation established this paradigm. Nat picks up a toy that a white woman's child dropped, handed it back to the mother and is beaten and bout to be charged with assault by a white man. Nat's wife is gang raped and beaten by white men, just cuz. and they don;t even call that shit rape just par for the course. Aint no callin the sheriff. The sheriff is nothing but an authorized agent of a patriarchy selected to keep the "peace" the dominant society has established.

No patriarchy=no law. No law means you don't have the security that you want as a woman. Black women are neither going to establish order or enforce law, for an example I direct you to your nearest Black community.

@desertrain10

The blk community doesn't live, exist in a vacuum

Since slavery, we too are members of a society where white males are at the top of the social hierarchy...Blk women being at the bottom of the totem pole

Law enforcement being a branch of partichical white authority

A blk woman was raped during those times she couldn't call the sheriff because she was a black first and a woman second

Subsequently many Blk women lived under the threat of rape and abuse, regardless of whether it came from white men or blk men

White men obviously being the greater threat

And though our experiences differ greatly, that scene you alluded to does a great job of illustrating how white women had very little agency in comparison to their white male counterparts

While they enjoyed protections Blk men and women did not, they still had to answer to their white husbands and fathers. And were regularly subjected to the violent ways of their husbands and father

They couldn't just leave because women had limited economic opportunities at the time

And voting initially was tied to property ownership in America. The popular sentiment they were the only voices that mattered. As time progressed though it varied state to state, white males were the only group that could freely vote

They justified this injustice with junk science that insiduated or outright suggested women and blks were less intelligent, had smaller brains

@desertrain10

Why do you care so much for white women who probably don't care about you either way?

To challenge a patriarchy and overthrow it you are going to need another patriarchy. The delusion that bw have that they are going to somehow overthrow white men is just that, a delusion. Especially since bw have been complicit in creating weak sons who are unable to challenge anyone outside of a basketball court or football field

lol @ white men never being wrathful towards white women....that is completely false

world history says different

any efforts to challenge the white patriarchal power structure, by anyone, has been met with his wrath

to topple this power structure will take strong blk men and women

and while i can't speak for anyone but myself, I just want bm to realize chasing the white man's patriarchy puts you at odds with bw women

patriarchal societies fosters misogyny ....women are seen as subordinate to men whether as objects of abuse or protection ...a racist patriarchal society such as ours is particularly dangerous for black women

Just finished watching. I liked it a lot but it left much to be desired.. namely, more bloodshed and graphic executions lol.. I felt they kind of glossed over the actual revolt.

Also I don't understand why Nat surrendered on his own when he could have offed a few more whites and actually died fighting

I love how they played up the mulatto house nigga as the likely snitch but it was a little boy who did instead. Had to be someone

I give the film 2 thimbs up :+1: :+1:

Here's the thing men aren't going to build what they Don't control and women aren't going to build period. So a patriarchy is pretty much what builds civilizations from which extend all the securities and luxuries women desire.

1.a system of society or government ruled by a woman or women.

we don't live in a matriarhcy

Misogyny is nothing new

And no, we have misogyny because we live in society where men hold most of the power in most of those aspects:

business, economics, music, architecture, body image, food norms, even fashion

Patriarchy, then, is the manifestation of that power

Sexism, misogyny is an essential component or rather aspect of the white patriarchal power structure...how better to make sure white men hold power in a society than to spread ideals that men are the superior sex and white men the guardians of respectability ? And wouldnt you agree it's a lot easier to loathe someone you believe to be inferior

That said, to suggest we live in matriarchal society is laughable

And so is the myth blk families are matriarchies...

While the prison industrial complex, poverty, police brutality and other manifestations of racism has left many blk families broken ...the physical absence of blk men in some blk households does not mean the absence of patriarchal thinking

And america was built on the backs of slaves. Same as many other great civilizations, nations ..does that mean we should endorse slavery? Hell no... So miss me with the patriarchy is great propaganda

There are other alternatives to men being in control of everything lol

Sad the notion of patriarchal power and the subsequent subjugation of blk women is so attractive to a Blk man

It is true, at times we can be our own worst enemy

I don't think it's fair to say that a patriarchy automatically means the subjugation of women. It is hard for women to obtain top levels of power, but that doesn't mean women are property or without value. A lot of older African cultures were patriarchies, but women still had important roles and power within the community. Just because you give one party the lead doesn't mean all other parties become slaves.

women can be so damn cruel and evil.this man didnt rape the woman but yall want him to confess for something he didnt do.GTFOH.half these women still aint get an apology by the men who beat and took the pussy from them

Lsa is really exposing black females in this ongoing gender war. Black females been showing they ass for a minute now. They aren't thinking about the end game at all.

Cosign

@desertrain10

@desertrain10

Why do you care so much for white women who probably don't care about you either way?

so acknowledging that women, including white women, suffer under the weight of white patriarchal authority = me caring so much for white women

smh...

how sway???? lol

you gotta come better than that bruh

Stop playing dumb.

You're smart enough to know exactly what I meant.

no....

i 'm honestly not

break it down for me

Just seems like you're going out of your way to highlight the hardships of people who don't care about you either way.......and who directly benefited from the oppression of your people.

It doesn't make sense to do that for people who wouldn't do the same for you.
