I used to live around the way from that house, used to be like "one day...", and if I lived in Detroit right now I'd make an offer on that house and would be moving in by the end of the summer.

This is what pisses me off about niggas. You literally have MANSION (8,200 sq. classifies as a mansion,) but niggas aren't trying to move on that. Instead of moving out with the whites, why aren't upperly mobile professional blacks trying to start upper middle class or upper class neighborhoods in Detroit. It seems that the shit will only be desirable once white people start fucking with it, then niggas will complain about shit being expensive and gentrification. Niggas. 8200 sq ft. 8 bathrooms and a pool? Nigga that's a bathroom for every room in the house.

In New York, that's would easily be a multi-million dollar home. Tell they're asking $15 million for this in Park Slope Brooklyn and this shit is like 6,000 sq feet.

Nigga really need to stop complain, get their heads in the game and take advantage of opportunities, and Detroit is one hell of an opportunity.

That's the thing tho... Sherwood Forest (where that house is located), Green Acres (where I lived, just north of Sherwood), and Palmer Woods as well as the other subdivisions I posted ARE Black middle/upper middle class neighborhoods! Sure there's a few white folks sprinkled in for good measure, but they're majority black. At least they were when I lived there in the 80's and 90's. By now some whites may have gotten hip to those areas but I doubt it. That's the absolute northern edge of Detroit (8 mile) right before you hit the suburbs. From what I understand, whites are concentrated near downtown and ain't coming too far north, so there should stilll be a majority of black families there.

Like I said... If I got a sweet ass deal on a job back in Tha D ($250K+ is what it would take to get me to move the family back there), I'd make an offer on that house. Seriously, I've loved that crib since I was 13, used to ride my bike over that way daydreaming about living there and shit. But at the same time, those 3000+ sq/ft houses are dirt cheap too. I'd GLADLY take one of those too!

But the reality of the matter is a fixer-upper house/condo in Detroit cost the same amount or more than a brand new house/condo outside of the city. I tried moving back into the city. And if you have kids its even harder because of the poor school system. I could go on and on about it, but the subject just sounds like a broken record. We've heard the economic problems in the D all too often. I still luv the city but politicians are putting more effort into Downtown Detroit instead of residential areas.

Even though I never feel quite comfortable or safe when I'm in Detroit, I do think the city has a lot of redeeming qualities. I absolutely live for historic districts and it's so cool to me how Detroit has been preserved over the years, from culture to art to entertainment. Detroit just has a much richer history than us and the neighborhoods have a lot more character, so usually the argument that forms there is one of authenticity. It's basically the Black Metropolis.

Chicago, however, is a much nicer city. I'm not sure who would argue otherwise, save for Detroit inhabitants. City-wise, we are in a completely different league, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. I have no idea where this notion arose that the Chi's reputation doesn't transgress national boundaries and Detroit is respected around the globe. That's very funny to me. Chicago oozes and drips world class from our waterfront to our downtown to our amenities not limited to entertainment, food (top shelf), shopping, culture, arts etc. It is one of the premier cities of the world and has all the bells and whistles that come along with that distinction.

Interesting thread.. I work downtown, I've had the opportunity to sit and kick it with everyone from Archer to Kevyn Orr.. I will say this.. I've worked down here a long time and I've seen a demographic change taking place over the past 5 years.. You come down here now and you see white people all over the place after work hours jogging, hanging in campus martius, eating at the restaurants and bars along woodward between downtown and midtown etc.. It definitely has become more cosmopolitan. On another note as @gorilla pointed out, business knows what's really going on here behind the scenes.. That's why they are setting up shop in so many places.. Think about it.. Why put a WholeFoods market in a poor ass city with no hope? Why spend millions purchasing every building you can get your hands on (Dan Gilbert) in a "dead" city? Why campaign to build a new $850 million sports entertainment complex (Mike Illitch) in a city that's "gone"? The plan in my opinion is\was to make it as unbearable to live in this city as possible for a certain segment of the current population, then after they've ran out to Canton, Romulus, Southfield, Farmington Hills (which suddenly accepted Section 8 etc but if you notice they keep all those people in a certain part of the city) you can build up for the people you deem as being "beneficial" to your city. A lot of people here think it's the white man taking over, I disagree.. I think it's more about the have's and the have not's.. Will they go as far as building up Mack and Bewick? Nope but they will make the area surrounding other certain areas very nice to live in.. This is the ground floor so if you are planning on benefitting from the overall plan you better get in right now..

Craccas got the fix in, all of this negative shit is for show, the momentum they've already built is too much to stop from being successful. Niggas was calling this back in 2003 but I didnt believe it and now its happening and I cant believe my fuckin eyes every time I go downtown.

As someone who doesn't live in Detroit, this shit seems way too obvious. Of course they would make it seem like Detroit is a waste-land and bankrupt the city, so all the good property would go to them on the low, also it would flush out those who own property in key places.
