But that $650 million arena planned for the Red Wings? That can still become a reality, according to Brian Holdwick, an executive vice president for the Detroit Economic Growth Corp.
Plans for an 18,000-seat arena were announced by the team's owners and local economic development officials last month, although the new proposal still needed to be approved by the City Council and a handful of state and local agencies. The Red Wings said there will be $367 million in private investment and $283 million in public funds in the complex, which would also include residential, retail and office space.

They're not. I found out not too long ago that one of my favorite cribs in Sherwood Forest was on the market for $400k.

matter of fact, it's still on the market (just looked it up)
$389K for almost 8200sq/ft, 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, a pool,
Tell me of another place in the country where you can get a well built brick home of that size and amenities in a nice ass quiet neighborhood in a major metro for that cheap.
I used to live around the way from that house, used to be like "one day...", and if I lived in Detroit right now I'd make an offer on that house and would be moving in by the end of the summer.

For starters, Detoit has been in a decline for numerous reasons-Crooked politicians,Reliant on 1 industry, and not being innovative. City been in recession mode for 2 decades, just now had to pull the plug.
The city is not all bad, just like the news feeds you shit aboutChicago, they portray the city just as bad.
As for the Detroitvs Chicago shit, there is a small disdain for each other, but we both have family in each city. Every time I've been, it's been love. Most cats in each city fuck with each other, especially if its money involved. Just as wild as Chicago is, Detroit is wilder. Chicago has 2 bad sides really( may have changed, last visit was 07), where as in Detroit you can get clapped anywhere. Detroiters are Proud of our city good or bad, and will whoop ass over it.
Detroit IS recognized worldwide, from a nigga who has been to multiple countries. Niggas hate to admit it, but they RESPECT niggas from Detroit off top, they know not to try us. Shame on these niggas NOT from Chicago throwing rocks, if you not from another major city that is prospering, stfu and just click reactions, Midwest niggas really get their hands dirty, not sure about some of these other cats.
New York went through a similar case in the late 80s and bounced back very profitable, Detroit will do the same.
Regentrification is what is going to happen next, not thrilled about it. Detroit is being bought up by rich mufuckas for the low. I am tryna buy as much property as I can to redevelop. In 15 years the city will be better off. I am finishing my degree to take part in leading it to a better place.
What up doe? To my Detroit Posters. Sup Joe to the Chi niggas.
Bruh, I NEVER sensed any disdain anytime I went to The Chi from Tha D. I know a lot of cats that treat Chicago almost like an extention of Tha D and vice versa. I know I always felt comfortable whenever I went to Chicago no matter where I ended up at. Cats from outside the two cities prolly won't get that, but that's how it is. You won't find a dude from NYC feeling at home in LA or ATL, but take a bruh from Chicago and drop him anywhere in Detroit and the only complaint he might have is Coney's vs Chicago dogs.

alvarez_313;6067535 said:Interesting thread.. I work downtown, I've had the opportunity to sit and kick it with everyone from Archer to Kevyn Orr.. I will say this.. I've worked down here a long time and I've seen a demographic change taking place over the past 5 years.. You come down here now and you see white people all over the place after work hours jogging, hanging in campus martius, eating at the restaurants and bars along woodward between downtown and midtown etc.. It definitely has become more cosmopolitan. On another note as @gorilla pointed out, business knows what's really going on here behind the scenes.. That's why they are setting up shop in so many places.. Think about it.. Why put a WholeFoods market in a poor ass city with no hope? Why spend millions purchasing every building you can get your hands on (Dan Gilbert) in a "dead" city? Why campaign to build a new $850 million sports entertainment complex (Mike Illitch) in a city that's "gone"? The plan in my opinion is\was to make it as unbearable to live in this city as possible for a certain segment of the current population, then after they've ran out to Canton, Romulus, Southfield, Farmington Hills (which suddenly accepted Section 8 etc but if you notice they keep all those people in a certain part of the city) you can build up for the people you deem as being "beneficial" to your city. A lot of people here think it's the white man taking over, I disagree.. I think it's more about the have's and the have not's.. Will they go as far as building up Mack and Bewick? Nope but they will make the area surrounding other certain areas very nice to live in.. This is the ground floor so if you are planning on benefitting from the overall plan you better get in right now..
