That was the best explanation of the multiversal map on youtube. Though they forgot to point out one awesome thing. Earth 6 is the "Just Imagine Stan Lee created DC" universe were books like this one took place

Funnily enough the Gods of Apokalips have direct influence over this world which could explain it's "grounded grittiness" like what was found in a lot of Lee's Marvel concepts (I.e.: Spider-Man, The Hulk).

Aligned in contrast with it is Earth 51 which is the Jack Kirby earth where characters like Kamandi exist. The Gods of New Genesis have direct influence over this world which is more whimsical and sci-fi like a lot of the Marvel concepts Kirby came up with (I.e.: Galactus and his herald, Asgard, Inhumans etc.).

That was such a dope approach to take having Kirby and Lee on opposite sides of the spectrum just like Highfather and Darkseid. It comes full circle sinceKirby created them to kinda highlight the differences in approach to a more "Marvel" like plane of existence (Apokalips) a more "DC" like one (New Genesis) when he created the 4th World and it's concepts. It's both logical and metatextual. Genius.

Green Lantern Godhead is turning out nicely; but Kyle's Gary Stu-ness is turning up. Also future's end is really turning up now with the latest entry into the gauntlet.

Kyle has always been a Gary Stu. His whole existence depends on that trope and it could get outrageous at times./ I do like that the New Gods of New Genesis are back to the power range that they're supposed to be in though. Jim Starlin had fucked those characters up something awful before the New 52 happened.

That fight between Batman and the League was kinda dope and the backup story about Joker was as intriguing as it was creepy.

Sinestro is the only book I've been skipping during Godhead. I mean the event has even got me reading NG again and I fucking loathe the Kyle and Carol romance. It's just that the Cullen Bunn guy's Lobo book was so mediocre that I'm not really checking for his writing like that. With that said I guess I'll give this months issue a shot.

Kyle for a huge porton of his history was defined as the rookie/everyman Lantern. The "Kyle ALWAYS has a power upgrade" aspect of his character was only added because DC Editorial knew that when Hal Jordan (the true gary stu) was resurrected as lead of the franchise, sidelining/minimilizing Kyle was going to cause a huge backlash.

So they just keep opting to make him "The Sixth Ranger" because he really has no true place with Hal, John, and Guy as active lanterns again.

Like what the fuck is the point of Futures End? A bunch of one shots and a weekly series about possible futures that we KNOW won't come to pass? Shit given that almost none of the main books are paying attention to Futures End, it feels like a complete exercise in futility.

BTW there are still infinite earths in the DC universe. The thing is there are 52 main earths but each of those earths houses it's own infinite possibilities of multiple earths on it's own. The earths all exist within the orrery but the orrery is comprised of a patchwork of different dimensions. So for example Earth prime could have different earths based on it within it's own dimension. It's just that now the infinite earths will be based somehow on one of the 52 main earths it spins off from instead of being more scattered around like in the bronze age. Grant Morrison has said this shit ad naseum for like the last 3 years now but comic book fans have selective memory.

Great spin job on DC's part but its really just DC having some retarded obsession with the the number 52. I get that theyre trying to establish the brand and forcing 52 down our throats is a way of doing it....But its coming off as excessive as the guy who wears an entire polo outfit with polo cologne (and we all know/knew that guy)

When has any possible dystopian future in the almost 80 year history of comic books really come to pass? I'll wait....

The point of Future's End is to tell good stories with the DCU without having to be restricted by the limits of current continuity. It's the exact same reason Batman Eternal exists as well.

Because of that freedom it also allows it's writers to come up with some new ideas and concepts which if successful (which it has greatly been) could see themselves end up in the regular continuity (which a lot of them will be). Furthermore the book has ties to the mainline books anyway. Like the end of the last Superman arc (Doomed) leading directly into what's happening in FE right now or like in the case of The Flash or Booster Gold the one shots were used to add another chapter to any ongoing story in certain existing or upcoming books.

A lot of the ramifications of the story will also bleed into the event book narratives DC will explore in 2015. Like there being a Brainiac Prime who graduated to exploring the bleed and collecting multiversal cities instead of just cities from planets in one dimensional space. That's going to be a crucial part of their spring 2015 event which will actually appeal to a lot of the older DC fans.

Convergence will be a nine-week miniseries kicking off April 1st, and will spill into 40 two-part miniseries in April and May featuring a variety of writers and artists examining the worlds of the DC Universe over the decades, as well as the heroes and villains contained within.

The story is described as a "meta epic" by co-publisher Dan DiDio, and involves Brainiac bringing together the populations of all of the multiverse cities he's trapped over the years in an experiment to see what would happen if they were to meet each other.

Out of this, a new supervillian named Telos (Greek philosophical term for "end" or "goal") will be introduced. The series is to be penned by TV producer/writer Jeff King, who'll make his comic book debut.

Sounds interesting though it seems nu52 brianiac is quickly approaching the god hood his older incarnations had.
