Killer Mike teases new album; opens up about label situation
Michael Render, better known as Killer Mike never stays still. He obviously named his crew GrindTime for a reason. Allhiphop was able to catch up with him to talk about his upcoming album:
AHH: First of all, thanks for chattin with us. Now I'm gonna get straight into it. You dropped one of the most profound albums of 2012 with R.A.P. Music. What made you want to drop another album so soon?
Killer Mike: Cuz I still got shit to say! I'm not done yet. A couple things with RAP Music. One, El-P and I wanted to do something great together. I know we accomplished that. He knows we accomplished that. Not everyone knows that though! People are either unaware or don't care. That brings me to number two. RAP Music was a person trying to spark a movement. Trying to inspire people.
AHH: Now this new album, does it have a title yet?
KM: It's actually titled Merciless Wrath, which is me as a person, fed up. Frustrated with the futility of it all. Angry that my message isn't getting through. People aren't hearing it, people aren't getting, they're dismissing it, and not passing it along, so I'm wildin out now.
AHH: Does any of this anger come from getting dropped from Goodfellas ENT?
KM: I wasn't gonna say anything about Goodfellas. I wasn't there long enough to make a real bonafied difference. Let me say this though: As i stated earlier, people aren't getting it. Label CEOs are no exception. @_Menace_ - no disrespect - is a man who didn't know what to do with my music. I don't know the man so I can't say why, but he either didn't know what i stood for before he signed me or didn't see his label as a platform for my message.
AHH: So are you releasing Merciless Wrath on a major?
KM: GameFace Winnertainment met with me not long after the release from Goodfellas. @MorganFreemanKing told me he was a big fan and appreciated what i was doing. We decided to break bread together. GameFace is an upstart but i have faith in them. I will be the first to release an album for them but a chance to work with the legendary Scarface sold me.
