speaking on true love is not simp, it's called maturity. sadly a lot of younger hip hop heads can't wrap their heads around this basic yet endearing notion.

recently ive read a lot of criticism on this site about the song come close, which was an ode to atcq's bonita applebum...but most of yall can't reference anything hip hop past 2000.

Exactly. When I first saw how niggas was getting at that particular song, I couldn't do anything but laugh because it showed the lack of Hip Hop history knowledge.

Drake bitch ass caught feelings plain and simple. Lets be real, artist like Eminem, J Cole, Kanye, Mos Def, Andre 3000, Devin the Dude, etc do a little bit of singing and none of them niggas took offense to that shit. It's pretty clear Drake had a quilty conscience and is insecure as hell, those talks of him being soft must of really gotten to him. Now he is acting tough and trying to change his image.

Does Common have enough influence to actually end it? In terms of respect across the board, he ain't respected nor remembered as a Jay or Nas to most Hip Hop listeners. Com can definitely damage him, but if this sweet shit gotta end, it has to come from the younger generation.

Sure enough..the only problem with today's generation is they're too passive aggressive, they don't wanna offend anybody especially if that artist is popular...

Scarface certainly was well respected at the time in the south, but mostly anywhere else in the country people may have recognized the nigga from the getto boys, but probably not. just b/c you may have known who he was at the time doesn't mean the country did. and my point was that nas had a southern rapper on his album when the shit wasnt even beneficial to him, out of respect for scarface the emcee, and for the culture.

my question is, when did battling become bad for hip hop? why cant the nigga just battle Common with out his fan base being outraged?? name the great rapper that isnt battle tested??

i dont think Common's argument is against diverse hip hop, although the drake supporters will try to make it out to be that. common's catalog is as diverse as any in the culture.

honestly, those of us that consider ourselves hip hop heads, should just stop arguing about this, and just enjoy the "battle" that lies ahead. i've been telling dudes Common was the equivalent to jay-z on some backpacker shit for years now.

and if most of you actually listened to electric circus instead of pretend you heard it, you would come to find that the musical sound of the album was before its time and music today has actually caught up to what he did on that CONCEPT album. which by the way has some of his best verses, imo, ie. 2nd verse to the hustle, verse on new wave, were ill.

young cats are afraid that they gonna be like 50 Cent, who blackballed himself for excessive beefing. Trust me, quite a few of them don't like each other, but they don't want to beef with a nigga that has the potential to run the rap game in the near future. If they did and that person they beefing with blows up similar to Rick Ross, that's a great chance that they ain't gonna be eating for the next 3-5 years. These young cats are thinking about their rap career and their pockets before they start beefing, which is something i (kinda) understand. They have the foresight that some of their predecessors lacked.

as someone stated brilliantly in another discussion i read yesterday... drake would be standing in a lawn holding a sign, singing to a stripper he met the previous night.

but honestly, i too hated that video, loved the song, but the video was over the top corny for sure.

lol youngin. You must be trolling.

lol, i'm not that young.

it's just funny how when common simps it's not simping but when drake does it is.

you stand on a woman's lawn and hold up signs? do you blast love ballads from a cd player and hold it up over your head too?

Why is it so hard for you Drake Stans to see the difference between making songs from a relationship context, as oppose to simping bitches you don't know or making player haters anthems (Marvin's Room). Common has real rap classic under his belt that ain't on no Keith Sweat begging for pussy shit.

The only difference is 50 Cent was using beef as a gimmick strategy for boosting record sales.
