Yawn. If you want to quit then quit. And why keep bringing up the 4.0 gpa? Who knows what type of classes or how many he took to achieve that point average. For all we know he might have passed one begining tennis class with an A. That will net anyone a 4.0 gpa.

He has valid points.. My only issue with him is that he said there are other ways to get a better education but he didn't go into specifics.

Fact of the matters is.. If you do no have money it is hard to invest in yourself to start a business or what have you. When going to college you don't have that issue because the government will give you a loan. Getting a student loan is much easier to get than getting a business loan.

Overall the issue is systemic. It's been built this way on purpose. And until there are viable alternatives for those who really don't have any money.. The beat will go on..

I been said this shit years ago and on here recently.

This is when you have to look at idealism vs. Pragmatism.

Like a pragmatist doesnt care about right or wrong. Yea what the guy said is true, but what does that do for me? Can you be succesful without a degree? Yea. But practically, go to school for something like IT or Med, get scammed for 4 years, and after your 22-25, you get a 100-200k job and be comfortable for the rest of your life.

I think thats really what most people getting at though. For most fields people really don't need that shit. Doctors and very few others IMO you do need that shit.

I'm of the opinion experience is the best teacher and folks ain't getting that in school.

Also the price of college is way too fucking high for what people are actually getting out of it.

Issue is no one hiring off experience. I mean the majority of americans are living check to check. And in the US, there is such a demand for IT jobs they have to give out H1B visas.

Let me explain what qualifies as a H1B visa. It is only given to highly skilled individuals, and the job has to pay atleast 85k a year.

So for these 18-22 year olds who have all the potential in the world, if they were to be pragmatists they'll be like fuck a scam, ima do these IT degree and get one of them 85k jobs.

Because, H1B visas are only issued when a company can prove they had a position open for 6 months and cant fill it within the US.

85k wont make you rich, but compared to the majority of America? Thats good living.

The demand of IT jobs is such that there are 5 jobs for 1 developer at all times. And its projected to grow.

So, who the fuck cares if school is a scam? And i totally agree it is a scam. But fuck it, be practical, get you a tech degree and live the good life.

Walk into one of these interviews and say you have life experience, you get kicked out. Walk into the same interview with a degree and you have a good shot of getting the job.

I know all about those visas. No need to assume people don't know shit just ask if I know or post the info without all the let me tell you shit its not needed.

No one is hiring off experience is because they all apart of the bullshit. I get that and been got that a long time ago.

I understand that sometimes we all have to play the "game" I'm just a person who doesn't get mad and can understands when a person is tired of the "game" and says fuck it.

Also I'm sure you know that just having that IT degree doesn't guarantee a person a got damn thing. That was also part of his point and frustration. Just because I have this piece of paper I'm now in big debt for that the rulers of the game said I needed it still doesn't guarantee me that I will get a high paying job.

Haha. You gotta chill out. We on a message board. Im writing to you, but other people who might not have the knowledge gonna read these posts too.

All im telling you is that people should be pragmatists and get a good degree and use that as a starting point.

If you go to school for art cause you chasing what you love, you didnt make a practical decision and let the scam work on you.

If you are smart with it and go for the money, who cares if its a scam, you gonna win the game.

Thats all im saying. Saying its a scam or not does nothing.

If you've been, you know

If you going to school, it should be for a job that's going pay off that loan the fastest

who gives a fuck .....colleges aren't EXPLICITLY about acquiring life skills ...its merely a way to make application/candidate screening easier for potential employers ...simple and plain ...

Dont they also prefer to hire foreigner on those Visa's because they get to pay them less?

Yes and no. The control system is that to be able to offer that visa, you have to pay the person 85k. At that point you can hire someone in the US for the same amount as well.

Also, if he's competing with others to get a job, an AA is better than a GED, a BA is better than an AA, Masters is over the BA, etc...

College isnt a scam, you know what you are in for, we go through all the levels of school and college is very similar too each level. It's not like you go to college thinking your all of sudden gonna be thrown into a good job, its just a way to put your name in a smaller hat when it comes to getting better jobs. Yeah the price is disproportionate but its not a scam.

The job hiring process is the scam here, they are the ones who dont give a fuck whether you have a degree or not but whether you know the HR person or someone in upper management (which of course you could have met in college). IT jobs are probably the cheat code in this system but not everyone is good at math...

People are dumb. There´s a lot of things you probably only know if you went to college. Also the connects and that diploma will open up doors that don´t got keyholes.90% of people don´t got the luck and focus that Bill Gates got.Fuck that sacrifice couple years and get that diploma.

That says more about 90% of people, no ?

Doesn't negate the point

It depends on what you want, you don't just sacrifice years just in case

Figure out what you want and how to get it, a lot of times, a degree ain't necessary

Btw name one thing you'll only know by going to college outside of the college experience(bitches, party, games, dorm shit)

I mean...there's smart and dumb ways about getting through college...most ppl choose the dumb way - not knowing what they wana major in upfront and waste money tryna find out, only to end up with a bullshit degree they don't use or they don't finish at all. So for them, yea they got scammed.

If you wana find yourself through school you can always go to a community college and take bullshit classes for $500 a year as opposed to 20k a year.

If u have support to fall back on or money u cAn quit. The avg person doesn't and like emholla said u gotta use that loan u get for school as a foundation to build a better life. Don't take more than u need. Take ur prerequisites at a community college first. Don't bullshit in school then drop out in debt with nothing to show. Pick a major that will pay u enough to pay off ur loans. Don't get a social science degree which maxes out at 40k and u went to a black private school and ur 100k in student Loan debt. These are the conversations parents need to have with kids going off to school but don't and u end up learning on the fly. It's fucked up. Also network intern while u in school so you dont get fucked with the whole I can't hire u with no experience stuff. The other elephant in the room is everyone getting degrees but there aren't enough jobs to go round. 20 years ago folk weren't going as much and there weren't all these online schools.
