This is when you have to look at idealism vs. Pragmatism.
Like a pragmatist doesnt care about right or wrong. Yea what the guy said is true, but what does that do for me? Can you be succesful without a degree? Yea. But practically, go to school for something like IT or Med, get scammed for 4 years, and after your 22-25, you get a 100-200k job and be comfortable for the rest of your life.
I think thats really what most people getting at though. For most fields people really don't need that shit. Doctors and very few others IMO you do need that shit.
I'm of the opinion experience is the best teacher and folks ain't getting that in school.
Also the price of college is way too fucking high for what people are actually getting out of it.
Issue is no one hiring off experience. I mean the majority of americans are living check to check. And in the US, there is such a demand for IT jobs they have to give out H1B visas.
Let me explain what qualifies as a H1B visa. It is only given to highly skilled individuals, and the job has to pay atleast 85k a year.
So for these 18-22 year olds who have all the potential in the world, if they were to be pragmatists they'll be like fuck a scam, ima do these IT degree and get one of them 85k jobs.
Because, H1B visas are only issued when a company can prove they had a position open for 6 months and cant fill it within the US.
85k wont make you rich, but compared to the majority of America? Thats good living.
The demand of IT jobs is such that there are 5 jobs for 1 developer at all times. And its projected to grow.
So, who the fuck cares if school is a scam? And i totally agree it is a scam. But fuck it, be practical, get you a tech degree and live the good life.
Walk into one of these interviews and say you have life experience, you get kicked out. Walk into the same interview with a degree and you have a good shot of getting the job.
