What was wrong with the skits?

I thought the skits on "CD" and "LR" were good and funny and fit both themes of the album but there were too many on both. He could of cut them down. This is why "Graduation" flows the best of all his albums, you can tell by that album he understood how to make a complete album.

Really? The skits on College Dropout helped the album flow tremendously from song to song. It's not like they were random and unrelated. The skits gave the album its concept. You can't deny that.

College Dropout is the album that made the most impact and will probably go down as the one that most will remember him by, but I still think Late Registration is his best work. It was better both lyrically and musically. Production wise College Dropout was more of the same style that he'd been using since '00 w/ the soul samples and drum programming, but Late Registration added layers and richer more distinct drum programming than what he was doing before. The instrumentation added to the samples and added layers to his sound. Lyrically, aside from a few lines, he was more consistent and his songwriting shined more on Late Regsitration.

College Dropout was his best album and it's a classic, Late Registration and Graduation were good too but not "classic"

Agreed. CD is still his best and is a true classic.

I would go as far to say that CD created a paradigm shift in mainstream rap...it's one of the reasons a guy like 50 Cent has so much trouble these days.

LR and Graduation were both very solid albums, just a few joints on each I never felt but still very very good.

808 got old real fast for me...

To me, Late Registration is still his best album. Kanye improved his flow, as well lyrics. Production was richer, more subtle and dark at the same time. College Droput is the album that introduced incredible talent to the world and remains classic in hip hop history, but LR was superior.

Hell yeah, back when CD came out and everything he touched was doing good, Ye was still heavily fucking with Common, Kweli, and Mos, among others...I remember telling my people that the trend of consciousness and soulful shit was coming up. Kweli had "Get By" his first and last truly major hit, Scarface had the Fix out, and sure enough we had BE, Black Milk, Elzhi, Lupe Fiasco and a lot of that type of artist come out since then.

Of course it's a lil different cuz a lot of them cats wear tight skinnyjeans but it's all in the same rough subgenre of rap.

College dropout is Ye illmatic but Late registratiion is his It was written. As close to flawless and truer to their respective nature as both debuts were, those second albums felt more refined, a lil braggadacio/cocky but I enjoyed the second albums more. The debuts get props for intoducing them to the world in raw unadulterated form, but their sophmore albums showed how great they could both be.
