College Dropout is the album that made the most impact and will probably go down as the one that most will remember him by, but I still think Late Registration is his best work. It was better both lyrically and musically. Production wise College Dropout was more of the same style that he'd been using since '00 w/ the soul samples and drum programming, but Late Registration added layers and richer more distinct drum programming than what he was doing before. The instrumentation added to the samples and added layers to his sound. Lyrically, aside from a few lines, he was more consistent and his songwriting shined more on Late Regsitration.

c/s .

COLLEGE DROPOUT TO ME IS A CLASSIC. THEIR WAS SO MUCH GOING ON IN HIS LIFE. THE PURE LOVE AND HUNGER 4 HIP HOP, EARNING THE RESPECT OF HIS PEERS BECUZ HE WAS NOT "GANGSTA". ALSO, IT BEING THE FIRST ALBUM THE SONGS WERE KINDA OLD TO HIM SO HE HAD LIKE HIS WHOLE LIFE TO WORK ON THEM. LATE REGISTRATION WAS HIM USING MORE CLEANER AND PRECISE EQUIPMENT ON PRODUCTION, PLUS THE MELODIES MOVED MORE AND WERE FATTER IN TEXTURE. (LISTEN TO THE OVERLAPPING MELODIES ON DIAMONDS ARE 4EVER). THEN, GRADUATION, IT WAS THE STEP IT UP LYRICALLY FACTOR THAT I BELIEVE HE WAS GOING FOR. THE PRODUCTION WAS REPETITIVE(LIKE MOST CLASSIC EAST COAST PRODUCTION) WHICH MADE U LISTEN 2 THE WORDS MORE.( "GLORY" IS HIS BEST WORK LYRICALLY ON THE ALBUM BECUZ ITS JUST HIM GOIN OFF).

808 and Heartbreak is a GREAT album, It pushed the envelope musiclly and like Kanye still kept current with the bullshit trend. I HATE Autotune but that album was not no T- Pain shit. I am a black man but i know that album lack the "nigga" factor. U KNOW WHAT I'M TALKIN BOUT, DON'T PLAY DUMB. That album is his worst. COLLEGE DROPOUT> TIGHTEST ALBUM IN THE LAST !) YEERS.

'College Dropout' was organic in sound and very conscious (the nigga is so up his ass now and against the grain of every shit he rapped about on that record{?})...

But for me ' Late Registration' is that shit... the production on that shit is just aces... real instrumentation from a renowned musical score conductor... Jon Brion

But Ye can hardly go wrong musically... just had concerns over his beats on BP3... I think they were a bit sloppy

Funny, College Dropout is the only one Kayne's album I own but nothing else. I had heard LR and Graduation but both of them are not better than CD.

Hard to rank Ye's albums because they're all excellent thus far but as far as his best work, I'll say its definitely between College Dropout and Late Registration...

College Dropout was really fresh and innovative when it dropped but the instrumentation, and just how polished Late Registration was productions wise and conceptually makes it really hard to argue against.

College dropout is Ye illmatic but Late registratiion is his It was written. As close to flawless and truer to their respective nature as both debuts were, those second albums felt more refined, a lil braggadacio/cocky but I enjoyed the second albums more. The debuts get props for intoducing them to the world in raw unadulterated form, but their sophmore albums showed how great they could both be.

Nothing else to say after this post!!!!

I understand people voting for "Latre Registration". That LP was amazing production wise but it just felt like something was missing to give it Classic status. I'm say 4-4.5 where as "CD" is a 5 for sure. At this point I don't think anyone can deny it's Classic Status. All you Hip Hop heads making fun of these "EMO" rappers well KanYe is their GOD. He birthed all these dudes. Drake would not have a career If KanYe didn't do what he did with that album by bring one of the first "Consious" Emcees without all the gun and drug talk to really blow. That album did cause a shift in the game for better or for worst and that's why it's his only true Classic.

Ye hardly 'sing-rapped' in his albums... with the exception of 808's

But it's not just about singing, it's style. KanYe is not a drug/coke/bust my gun rapper. Sure their were ones before Ye but not as successful. Ye' changed the game with "CD" which was a very consious album when you look back. KanYe rapped about real things that people can relate to. I was 24 when the album dropped, and workin a B.S. job and "Spaceship" really spoke to me and I changed my course and now I'm on the path I want to be in. That's what I mean, that album is beyond Classic it will define his Legacy for sure. "Late Registration" was dope, nobody can dispute that but it just falls short of Classic. "808's" birthed Drake for sure, his album is a rehash of that album.
