Head of police association blasts Colin Kaepernick over socks

The head of a national police organization ripped Colin Kaepernick and the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers quarterback wearing socks with cartoon pigs in police hats.

According to USA Today, Kaepernick has reportedly worn the socks as early as Aug. 10 in practice, but he has not yet been asked about them. Images of the socks were posted on social media Wednesday night and quickly created a stir.

"It's just ridiculous that the same league that prohibits the Dallas (Cowboys) football club from honoring the slain officers in their community with their uniforms stands silent when Kaepernick is dishonoring police officers with what he's wearing on the field," Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, said, according to USA TODAY Sports.

"I think the league is in a downward spiral regarding their obligations to the public under (Commissioner) Roger Goodell, and this is just another example of that."

The league has taken action in the past for what players wear at practice. The NFL told the Patriots this summer that players must wear numbers on their practice uniforms, in part to monitor injured players. It's not clear if the league would come down on Kaepernick's statement socks. According to USA Today, the league said it would not comment until it spoke to the Niners.

Kaepernick has been in the spotlight for not standing during the national anthem during preseason games to draw attention to racial inequalities in America.

"The fact that it has blown up like this, I think it's a good thing. It brings awareness," Kaepernick said Sunday. "Now, I think people are really talking about it. Having conversations about how to make change. What's really going on in this country. And we can move forward. ...There is police brutality. People of color have been targeted by police. So that's a large part of it and they're government officials. They are put in place by the government. So that's something that this country has to change. There's things we can do to hold them more accountable. Make those standards higher."

Kaepernick is expected to play Thursday night against the San Diego Chargers, who will be holding their annual salute to the military at the game. He has indicated that he will continue to sit for the national anthem until he sees change in the country.

The socks are not the first apparel that Kaepernick has worn to make a statement. He also wore a Fidel Castro T-shirt and a Malcolm X hat last week. He has not commented on the clothing and has not been seen by the media wearing the socks since a San Francisco police officer's union official complained about his lack of sensitivity on Monday.

Johnson, who represents more than 240,000 active law enforcement officers, called Kaepernick wearing the socks disrespectful, according to USA Today.

"It doesn't seem like he's thought through or bothered to educate himself about the way (law enforcement officers) are out there trying to do a very difficult job, and the vast majority of the time get the job done right," Johnson said, according to the newspaper.

These cacs love the low hanging fruit

Burn the #7 jersey, but not your season tickets

Call wearing socks with cartoon pigs disrespectful, but making and selling them capitalism........

I hope dude plays the game of his life. I'm talkin 5+ TDs type shit.....and hopefully his O-line gives this man some protection.

The crux of the problem with this national anthem brouhaha, lies in the NFL assuming that patriotism=groupthink, which=more fannies in seats, which=more$$

It's a cheap way to sell your product.

Nationalism, patriotism, and this false sense of "oneness" is a business model that has limits when you're catering to different demographics who may have a totally different opinion on all things "Americana."

Notice how the media narrative fails to discuss WHY he's protesting (pigs killing unarmed black men unscathed) and his right to exercise his first amendment right to do so.

White America. The epitome of hypocrisy disguised as democracy.

I don't pray often....but right now I pray kaep don't cave. I pray whatever strength and resolve he had when he made the decision to do this in the first place, stays with him. Especially on a night like tonight.

This is why I always say I'd rather an athlete or celeb just not say anything about social issues at all than to just say some shit they're not informed about or don't feel strongly about just because they were asked. Now your name is out there being used as a distraction when you coulda said "I don't wana talk about it" and had the same effect. Don't nobody need you to be a civil rights leader. All we ask is that you make your words count for something. And right now he talking and ain't saying a damn thing.

I don’t want him anywhere near my team,” one front office executive said. “He’s a traitor.”

“He has no respect for our country,” another exec told Freeman. “F— that guy.”

Each of the seven execs said he believes Kaepernick will never play in the NFL again if and when the 49ers cut the 28-year-old. Taking it a step further, one team official told Freeman he believes 90 to 95 percent of NFL front offices have blacklisted Kaepernick. That same exec said he cannot remember this much “collective dislike” for a player since Rae Carruth, who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the 1997 NFL Draft.

Shit is crazy. And Boomer Esaisan's bitch ass talkin about its the most embarrassing display he's seen from an athlete. All the murderers, alleged rapists, and woman beaters that have came through the NFL over the years, smh.

Tired of folks being able to make these statements without anybody asking them the "tough" questions.

So Boomer, who's worse Aaron Hernandez or Colin?

Im a few pages late on this boomer thing. He has a morning show here in NY sports radio That I used to listen to on my way to work.this is not the first time he spoke out and sounded stupid. When Eric garner and mike brown got killed and the cops got off, this fool was on his show the next day damn near blaming the victims for what happened. saying "people need to respect the badge" and his clown ass co host asked a caller that called in outraged at the situation "what about black on black crime, why isnt there any outrage about that". it was insensitive as hell.

his show always does charity events for the NYPD and FDNY which is why he will always jump up to defend them no matter of wrong they are cause im sure he dont want to fuck that up. so its not surprising. on top of that he's just some white guy from the surburbs of long island that has no clue on the issues he's talking about. just another white person from the safety of their surburban home and skin color with a closed minded opinion. fuck him

SMH.....

No white NFL players backing Colin?

Somebody has to ask white america why black people speaking out against police brutality enrages them so much?

When the cliven Bundy ilk says it it's cool and not unamerican at all.

And I hope cam never gets a ring.
