I get that athletes have and deserve the freedom to tackle social issues in a way that suits them however, there has to be the fundamental understanding that these issues will often involve a degree of sacrifice.

I've always thought that a lack of unity impedes progress and this was an opportunity for black athletes to demonstrate that!

As expected, not a single white athlete supported Kap or spoke out. Whats even more disappointing is that the very group he is trying to uplift can't show support.

Both Kap and Baldwin received death threats which shows how much society has grown when people speak out for change. At the very least their peers could have shown a level of support.

That's not true his teammates supported him. And that soccer player chick started kneeling.

Actually a few white athletes did speak out and support Kaep. You had the white girl who plays for team USA soccer kneel for the anthem and I believe q white player on the Pats openly said in multiple interviews, think it was Kyle Long, that more white athletes should be standing behind Kaep as that would drive his point home more.

As for the sacrifice debate yes every thing on this level requires some sacrifice and no matter how someone chooses to show their support publicly you know they will take a public hit in someway.

If there were a few white athletes that supported kaep then I stand corrected however, if anything I think it further emphasises the point I was establishing.

Salute Kaep but......

Athletes are a part of the bread and circus, they are here to distract you, few are educated on subjects that matter, they've been coddled since 14, they are anomalies that will end up broke. Change will come from bottom up

All that distraction shit is bullshit. Like people can't watch sports and still be aware of the state of the world. These "I gotta be woke 24/7" niggas are silly as fuck

I love sports, wanted to be Ralph Wiley, still love watching EPL, NBA, NFL. But I don't expect these men to be leaders of community, that's what made Kaep special, he scarificed his career to speak

about police murdering unarmed black men. BUT sports itself is all marketing now to sell you beer, sneakers, headphones - its all about consumerism.

Change will come when police harass and search white folks for drugs, when prosecutors dismiss non violent drug charges on young black men because she suspects the cops violated his fourth amendment, when juries are your peers, when black politicians don't shill for democrats but search for black businesses to give contracts to - etc
