The rapping technically was very good though he was spitting on every song did his job as an MC as far as the technical aspects of word play, rhyme schemes, metaphors, punchlines, multi syllables, similies, flow. The way he executes his message is very boring. I went back to college and still am at college this a subject he raps about a lot so I can relate to this college a positive experience for me. But J Cole doesn't make it sound interesting or engaging it bores me the way he executes the topic it's not engaging at all

I explained it's not about the message it is the execution that matters is the important factor

J Cole's message is executed in such a boring way that it doesn't matter if he from the streets. Plus the fact I don't understand goes back to my point in the past complex lyrics are not good. Lyrics should be simple but effective not hard to understand and very complex. This type of rap complex and very lyrical is just not my cup of tea

I give credit to his great lyricism and technical spitting on this album that is his biggest strength he a lyricist and his best asset is his flow. But everything else on this album from the hooks to the production to the execution of his message to the delivery was beyond terrible

I still bump tracks from both those projects occasionally.

Can't say the same for this one down the line, but hey each to his own.

Good project imo. Dope concept, songs. I don't think coles plan was to have a smash record on this joint. Just seems like he wanted to make a concept album n tell a specific story through a series of songs.

The first verse of "change" is amazing.

Change is the only track off this i still have in rotation
