Every year its the same shit with the Oscars and Grammys... Zero to No black nominees

They nominate black films....but the white people that work on the films. (Creed, 12 years a slave)

The Oscars have many criticisms but if you niggas think winnin' one isn't a big deal or its about white acceptance pssssh I dunno. To win the most prestigious award in your field is to be recognised by your peers for all the hard work you put into it

Yeah, they're definitely doing that shit on purpose.

Creed's about a black boxer.......Stallone gets nominated.

Django Unchained is about a free black man...........DiCaprio gets nominated.

Do the Right Thing............Danny Aiello gets nominated.

Shameful.

Who cares...I'm pretty sure you can eat out there without winning one of them trophies. Black people always wanting white acceptance huh?

It's not really about white acceptance though - it's more just a demand to be treated equal. Do you know how much more money and roles an actor gets when they get an Oscar or at least get nominated? Or how much more likely a black director will get his projects produced if they're recognized by the academy?

Unless there's a secret all-black Hollywood out there then there is one body that determines not only the trajectory of the careers of the individuals involved but also as a result the representation that black people as a whole get in media which like it or not has a huge impact on public perception as a whole which in turn has at least some effect on people's daily lives.

So yeah they can eat the leftovers and the scraps and the handouts but why the hell would anyone accept that in any industry? You gotta take your respect.

They always nominate some film you've barely heard of like “the eucalyptus leaves of basil ave. In the summer" and they praise the shit out of some waif thin white lady or a white man who played a homosexual character. And the trailer just shows white people riding bikes up a street crying and hugging.

I'm fuckin crying!!!!!!!!!

Once you win one of these awards your demand is increased as is the money you are offered.

The Oscars are nothing more than a frivolous popularity contest. Pay more attention to the real awards given for science, medicine agriculture, etc. Getting an Oscar is like becoming prom queen. Pointless.

Tyler Perrys movies are simplistic, poorly written and repetitive BUT his business model is one black entertainers should be following, own your shit, do the hard ground work, partner with distributor, put money up, and get your own studio when you get big enough.

I don't understand people who criticize Tyler Perry. Truth be told, white people put out "simplistic, poorly written and repetitive" movies all the time, and no one says anything because its a white film.

The fact he chose the phrase "white BET Awards" as opposed to calling the BET Awards the "black Oscars" says a lot about how far the BET Awards perception has come. Remember people thought that shit wouldn't last past 2-3 years

To say the black "Oscars" is too imply that a white creation/paradigm of what white people consider to be white excellence makes Black greatness relevant and equivalent to white greatness only when blackness is given a white designation (Oscars). I remember a couple of years ago their was the campaign to name certain HBCU's that are known for academic excellence the "Black Ivy League," a group of black academics questioned it. Why must a collective of HBCU's be referred to as the Black- Ivy League? The Ivy League is a set of predominate historically white universities and colleges. Why must Blackness have a white label attached to it to make it great? Why can't Spelman be Spelman, Morehouse be Morehouse. This is all apart of the conditioning we have experienced as a people, to compare Black greatness to white greatness. Chris was right in his approach, the "White Bet Award" meaning the "Bet Awards" are the standard, were as the Oscars are nothing but an imitation of Black greatness (which we know isn't true, theirs nothing great about the BET Awards, which projects to the fact he just shitted on the award show he's hosting; it went over fall's head).

It is to me, I don't watch that shit. But if you're in the business, even being nominated generates more business for you. White praise begets more white money.

Furthermore, I have a daughter who's into drama, and the arts. If she wanted to really get into acting, not seeing someone who represents her in some way is discouraging. To have ONLY white people being paraded as the best, is discouraging to people who are in the business and want to get in it.

LEONARDO DI CAPRIO HASNT WON YET HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ACTORS IN HOLYWOOD AND EARNs BIIIIG MONEY.

These awards are like WRESTRELMANIA. Just watch but it doesnt bother me at all.

People criticize Tyler Perry because his movies suck. Why accept lesser material just because it comes from a black director? If it sucks it sucks and I ain't putting my money down for a shitty product just because the creator has my same skin color.

As for the 2nd part I said all of that in about 200 less words...

Tyler Perry success is simplistic genius. He put out a brand that certain people liked and stuck with it. He didn't branch out and try to appeal to the masses (black or white). I can't stand that Madea cackling mess but I respect Tyler Perry for blazing his own trail his own way with no apologies. More blacks should follow suit and do their own brand, free think more. You are not going to force old white Hollywood to like you.
