Copper;8676863 said:They always nominate some film you've barely heard of like “the eucalyptus leaves of basil ave. In the summer" and they praise the shit out of some waif thin white lady or a white man who played a homosexual character. And the trailer just shows white people riding bikes up a street crying and hugging.

I don't understand people who criticize Tyler Perry. Truth be told, white people put out "simplistic, poorly written and repetitive" movies all the time, and no one says anything because its a white film.

To say the black "Oscars" is too imply that a white creation/paradigm of what white people consider to be white excellence makes Black greatness relevant and equivalent to white greatness only when blackness is given a white designation (Oscars). I remember a couple of years ago their was the campaign to name certain HBCU's that are known for academic excellence the "Black Ivy League," a group of black academics questioned it. Why must a collective of HBCU's be referred to as the Black- Ivy League? The Ivy League is a set of predominate historically white universities and colleges. Why must Blackness have a white label attached to it to make it great? Why can't Spelman be Spelman, Morehouse be Morehouse. This is all apart of the conditioning we have experienced as a people, to compare Black greatness to white greatness. Chris was right in his approach, the "White Bet Award" meaning the "Bet Awards" are the standard, were as the Oscars are nothing but an imitation of Black greatness (which we know isn't true, theirs nothing great about the BET Awards, which projects to the fact he just shitted on the award show he's hosting; it went over fall's head).

Once you win one of these awards your demand is increased as is the money you are offered.
