treacherous times
In 1974 there were 970 murders.
Before crack. Before gangster rap. We talkin WAY back in the days bro. So yes, we here in chicago dont feel like this is all that scary or traumatizing because at various points in time shit has been WAY worse. Niggas are brainwashed vy the media man.
lol My nigga come. Look at the argument you're making. You're saying that the 488 ain't bad because it's been worse. That's not the point. 488 is bad, and the media doesn't have to brainwash anybody for people to recognize that it's bad.
New York has a population of 8.49 million people and a murder rate of 2.2 homicides per 100,000 people. L.A has a population of 3.92 million and a murder rate of 3.5. Chicago has 2.72 million people and a rate of 8.52. And those murders are strongly attributed to a single pocket of the city's population. That's a problem. If you don't see that, you just have your head in the sand.
we would love it if there were 0 murders but unforunately thats not the fact...the numbers are used to show that ppl today are acting as if the revelation is coming when we ve dealt and survived through worse
But it is a revelation, maybe not to people like you who lived through the really bad times, but a lot of people outside the city never realized how bad it was there. And again, just because it's better that it was, doesn't mean it's good, so this argument that the media is just sensationalizing things is BS. All the big cities have been big decreases in homicides, but Chicago still lags behind most of those other cities. If you cared about your city, you wouldn't be trying to dismiss the problem that represents.
U care to donate to the non profit i happen to be a board member of? one that is mostly self funded and aims to reach at risk youth and teach them to do better and ameliorate themselves? I can pm you the link if u d like....
That's great that you do that, but it doesn't change what I said. Either you acknowledge there is a problem or you don't. If you can't even admit there is a problem, then you don't care because you can't solve a problem you won't admit exists no matter how much money you throw at it.
If I didnt think there was a problem, I wouldnt dedicate my time and resources to addressing it
