No Street Fighter V until 2018 - Capcom producer

Tomoaki Ayano says that road to fifth Street Fighter title will be "long and arduous"; explains that new Ultra Street Fighter IV characters are not simple rips from Street Fighter X Tekken.

It looks like fans wanting a fifth Street Fighter game will have quite a while to wait.

Fighting game fans will be stuck with USFIV for a while.

Fighting game fans will be stuck with USFIV for a while.

Capcom producer Tomoaki Ayano said in a VG247 interview that it will take the company until the year 2018 for Street Fighter V. "Game development is a long and arduous process. If you look at the history of the series, it took six years to go from Street Fighter II to Street Fighter III, and nine years to go from Street Fighter III to Street Fighter IV," he said.

He added in the interview that the new Ultra Street Fighter IV characters--Elena, Rolento, Hugo, and Poison--are not simple character rips from Street Fighter X Tekken. "If we [copied and pasted them from SF x Tekken], they would undoubtedly be the strongest characters in the game. The reason for this is down to the difference in gameplay systems, most notably Boost Combos," he said.

"Boost Combos formed the basis of the battle system in Street Fighter X Tekken and do not exist in Street Fighter IV. Besides adjusting the characters for a game engine without Boost Combos, each will need to have many moves added as well, such as Ultra Combos and Super Combos.A simple rip wouldn't allow us to make the necessary changes, so a lot of work is going on behind the scenes."

Street Fighter IV: The Milk It Dry Edition

To be fair 14.99 for 5 new characters, 6 new stages, gameplay adjustments, and all previous DLC contents isn't milking. That's a damn good deal. Imagine how long every game would last if regular extensions like that were offered.

Wonder if the 5th is Goutetsu. Shit, if they brought Gouken back from the dead why not? There was even a big April fools stunt bout him being in a SF game years back. Dude is long over due in the SF universe. He's been the guy you hear about, but never play, long enough.

In the latest blog post, Ayano tackles questions that are not related to balance changes for the upcoming Ultra Street Fighter 4, on a variety of weird subjects. Most questions aren't really that interesting, but a few stuck out, and have been personally translated by me below.

We have three questions available, two about adding characters to Ultra Street Fighter 4, and one about adding functions to the taunts in the game, such as in Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike.

To start you off, here's the question regarding taunts.

Question: Since you went through all of the trouble to create 10 different taunts for every character, can't you make them more useful, like in 3rd Strike, where they would heighten your attack or defense?

From: An eye for an eye, a taunt for a taunt

Answer: In 3rd Strike, I used Q, and his taunt sure was strong, huh? But we have no plans to add effects to taunts in the Street Fighter 4 series.

Hit the jump to hear what Ayano said about Alex and Karin.

Question: Would you please... Add Alex to Ultra Street Fighter 4?

From: Bandana Lover

Answer: Being the main character of Street Fighter 3 and all, Alex sure is popular, isn't he?

Having both strong normal attacks and good throws, he certainly seems like he'd be a strong character.

Question: Why aren't you adding Karin?

From: Guy User

Answer: She got 1st place in the national popularity poll, didn't she?

Personally, there are a lot of character I'd want to add to Ultra Street Fighter 4, but please look forward to further announcements!

There's a high chance that none of this actually means anything. The choice of words "further announcements" seems to suggest that we might have something to look forward to, but at the same time it doesn't actually say we'll be getting more characters than the ones currently promised, which leaves it open to interpretation.

Capcom currently has no plans to bring Ultra Street Fighter 4 to Wii U

Posted by DreamKing23 — August 16, 2013 at 4:33 p.m. PDT

Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono took to Twitter this morning in order to address various follower questions about Ultra Street Fighter 4. When asked if the Street Fighter 4 series update would be making an appearance on Nintendo's Wii U, Ono stated that Capcom currently has no plans for such a version.

We apologize that we don't have plan abou it at this moment. RT @Snowman_2002: Will we see any SF for other fans on the wii u?

— Yoshinori Ono (@Yoshi_OnoChin) August 16, 2013

Last month Ono mentioned that Ultra Street Fighter 4 will not be seeing a release on any of the next generation consoles either. The Capcom representative said that USF4 is only slated for a release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC at this time, and now specifically confirmed that the Wii U falls into the former category.

The last time we saw Street Fighter on a Nintendo platform was SSF4 on the 3DS. Judging by Ono's tweet, it may be quite some time until Nintendo fans see another SF title released.

Giving a few more clues as to who the 5th character will be in Ultra Street Fighter 4, Capcom's Matt Dahlgren and Peter "Combofiend" Rosas said that the character is a very natural fit for the Street Fighter universe, which likely means this individual has some ties to the franchise.

They added that it's a fighter the research and development team had been thinking about for some time, and they wanted to bring this person to fruition.

Combofiend noted that about 30,000 people responded to their balance change requests, with 12,000 from Japan and 18,000 coming from other locations.

Hugo, Rolento, Poison and Elena will also have new animations, combo and focus attacks that weren't ported over from Street Fighter X Tekken. Hit the jump for more details, including light change notes for Hakan, Juri and Yang.

Here's a bullet rundown of some of the other notable details.

• More updates for Street Fighter X Tekken could happen, depending on fan feedback.

• No one is likely to anticipate the new modes being put into USF4.

• While Combofiend said Fei Long, Seth, and Cammy were the strongest characters, and will receive tweaks, they're trying to make them not too weak, either.

• They're looking at Hakan's non-oiled moves, trying to close the disparity from his oiled moves.

• Juri is getting a few attack hit boxes changed.

• Yun isn't going to see many tweaks, cause he's already really strong.

• Combofiend felt Yang was hit too hard by nerfs and some of the v2012 changes will be reversed.

Updated: Red Focus and Ultra Combo Double being added in USF4 - ComboFiend shows both systems in action, unblockables removed, confirms location tests

In Ayano's latest blog, the Capcom representative confirmed some of the rumored gameplay mechanic additions set to be added to Ultra Street Fighter 4. Both the Red Focus and a player's ability to select both Ultras in a match at the cost of reduced damage are indeed being added to the update.

Below is the translation.

You can choose Ultra Combo Double, which allows you to use both Ultra Combo 1 and Ultra Combo 2! The damage becomes a little lower, but it gives you a lot more variety in your offensive and defensive options!"

"Multiple hit-absorption focus attack becomes possible!

A "Red Focus Attack" which allows you to absorb multiple hits has been added! It costs super gauge to use, but the damage and ultra gauge gain become higher than from a normal focus attack! Of course, you can dash cancel it as well."

ComboFiend over at Capcom Unity also posted a video in which he explains the Ultra Combo Double and Red Focus systems. He also states that the Capcom team has successfully removed unblockables from the game, and that we will indeed see location tests for USF4.

wasn't gonna cop...

but capcom is hurting bad for cash and they are one of my favorite developers.

will be sad to see them dissolve as a company, but at the rate things are going it just might happen unless they get a smash hit title or two within the next few years.

The irony of it all is that a lot of the things they've done in recent years have been labelled as cash grabs. You would think if that was the type of business model they were using, they wouldn't be in such bad shape.

lol I hope they dont ruin this game

New system mechanic coming to Ultra Street Fighter 4 outside of Red Focus and double ultras

26_usf4mechanic.jpg

A new system mechanic which hasn't been unveiled yet — outside of Red Focus Attacks and double ultras, will be coming to Ultra Street Fighter 4, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono said recently at the Capcom Cup Taiwan qualifier.

DM|Zhi was kind enough to translate for Yoshinori, and he noted that Ono said that the development team made a new game while he was busy, so you can expect Ultra Street Fighter 4 to be very fresh take on the series.

It was stated that it's going to give you a new perspective on how to play Street Fighter.

Ono said that this new system mechanic would be a huge change, with wide sweeping alterations to how the game is played, similar to the scale of difference that Red Focus and double ultras will have.

You can click the Read more link below to see the system mechanic teaser video discussion.
