5th Ultra Street Fighter 4 character will be making their fighting game debut

Capcom unveiled quite a bit of information on their big project, Ultra Street Fighter 4, this past weekend at EVO 2013. Along with the name, some balance changes and pricing info, we found out that 5 new characters would be added to the playable roster.

Hugo, Rolento, Poison and Elena will all be included in the update scheduled to drop next year, but Capcom also revealed that we'll be seeing a 5th fighter that is still to be announced. It is said that this fighter has never appeared in a Street Fighter title before.

In an interview with the Jace Hall show, Capcom's Matt Dahlgren discussed some of the previously known details about Ultra Street Fighter 4 but also dropped another interesting bit of info regarding the 5th character. According to Dahlgren, not only has this character never been in a Street Fighter game, but USF4 will also be their fighting game debut.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will bring 4 familiar characters into the mix including Rolento, Elena, Poison and Hugo who originated from the Final Fight series along with a currently unknown fifth. Capcom is keeping quiet about who the last character will be at this point. Dahlgren tells us not only has “this character…never been featured in a Street Fighter game up until now” but that this “will be the first time he (or she) makes their fighting game debut.”

Many have been speculating that the new fighter added to USF4 would be Haggar from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Considering this new character has never been in a fighting game before, that more than likely rules out the mayor of Earth.

Ono: I don't have the R&D budget and staff to work on Street Fighter 5 for next generation consoles currently

Making a statement that could very well change by the time Ultra Street Fighter 4 is released in early 2014, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono said that he currently doesn't have the research and development budget and staff to work on Street Fighter 5 for the next generation consoles.

Scheduled for release in late 2013, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will hit consumers hands, but it looks like they'll be doing so without a new Street Fighter entry from Capcom. Capcom's Rey Jimenez recently commented that, "We are still very early in development of the initial content," in regards to Ultra Street Fighter 4, so it appears that the Street Fighter team will be occupied for a bit of time, before they're free to work on another title.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were launched in 2005 and 2006, respectively, but Street Fighter 4 wasn't actually released until early 2009, although it saw an arcade version in mid-2008. If Street Fighter 5 follows suit, we may have a bit of a wait in front of us before we see a direct sequel on the next generation consoles.

Smh...them idiots at EVO boo Killer Instinct but then are cool with this?

They weren't booing Killer Instinct, they were booing M$, and even then it could be said they were booing "exclusivity" in general, not M$.

They cheered for Chief Thunder and all the impressions from the FGC are positive.

Word. After the great commercial success of SFIV within the past 5 years it's difficult to believe that Street Fighter V isn't at least half way through production right now.

theres no way SF5 is in production but Seth Killan said the wait between SF4 and SF5 wont be anywhere near as long as the wait between SF2 and SF3

But Seth Killian and Christian Svensson both recently left Capcom lol, neither gave a real reason either

Their fighting game division isnt a very large studio like the studios making the big blockbuster games these days

It depends on how big of a hit SF5 is theres only 3 (really 2) versions of SF3 because it wasnt a big commercial hit.

SF4 did really good in sales and with the hardcore players this is like the 6th version of SF4 because the fans demanded it.

Arcade SF4

Console SF4 (New Characters)

SSF4 +Arcade version

SSF4AE +Arcade version

SSF4AE V 2012 +Arcade Version

USF4 +Arcade Version

The wait between 2 and 3 was 6 years but if the studio isn't very large that could be a factor. I figured it could possibly be in pre-production stages (story boards, concept creations, character sketches etc.) because I was under the impression that their fighter devs were in larger abundance since it's the companies bread and butter outside of RE and they're able to conceptualize multiple series' at a time.

At this point, I don't even know what a SF5 does differently or looks like, especially with all these re-releases. I can't see a scenario where its neeeded. They should just make this USF4 a download on the next gen platforms.

Ultra Street Fighter 4's fifth character is 'very much related to Street Fighter'

Ultra Street Fighter 4's fifth character is 'very much related to Street Fighter' Narrowing down the range of who he 5th character could be in Ultra Street Fighter 4, Capcom's David "Dawgtanian" Hinds left a note on his Twitter account stating that the unannounced character is very much related to Street Fighter.

A community member was worried that this new fighter would be in a vein similar to Cole (Street Fighter X Tekken), Mega Man or Asura. Hinds had this to say.

Thujal: Terrified the 5th character is going to be another Cole / Mega Man / Asura and not related to Street Fighter. And Dinosaur stage? In Street Fighter? Really?!?

David Hinds: It's very much related to Street Fighter, so you won't need to worry.

Earlier today it was discovered that the 5th unannounced character in Ultra Street Fighter 4 had never been in a fighting game before, which means people like Mike Haggar and others who'd been in the Vs. series were out of the running — as this individual would be making their fighting game debut.

they should just have USF4 a digital download for the ps4

Capcom currently has no plans to bring Ultra Street Fighter 4 to next-gen consoles or other modern systems - PS3, Xbox 360 and PC only at this moment

Since the announcement of Ultra Street Fighter 4 during EVO weekend, many questions have arisen from fans all over the globe. Players have been hitting up various Capcom representatives on Twitter in order to wring out as many details as they can about the upcoming Street Fighter 4 series update.

Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono was recently asked about the platforms we may be seeing USF4 make an appearance on; more specifically, if the update would be released on any next-generation consoles.

According to Mr. Ono, Ultra Street Fighter 4 is only set to be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC at this time. This comes as no surprise considering the reveal trailer only mentioned those three platforms, however, this is unfortunate for anyone looking forward to a mobile release (PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS), a Wii U port or a version on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

PS3/360/PC at this moment. Thanks :D RT @warmlettuce: will Ultra Street Fighter IV be available on the new Playstation/Xbox systems?
