I look at this just like any other bombing anywhere else in the world. Either I give a fuck, or I don't. Why should my empathy be determined by the proximity of the tragedy?

Sure, I feel bad for whoever got hurt. But I give it about as much importance as a news piece on a bomb that goes off in Iraq or elsewhere.

And, honestly, I actually give this bombing less importance and less empathy than when I read about a drone strike in Pakistan that kills an entire family sleeping, or kills children in a classroom. THAT is a tragedy that sparks negative emotion in me. This does not.

Actually, this is actually sorta entertaining.

It's not the violence inflicted on the victims that I find entertaining. It's the overreaction that Americans have. This "woe is us" idea that pops into Americans' heads, like this is an outrage that it happens in America. When, really, whether it was caused by someone foreign or domestic, it's not only not a surprise that a bombing somewhere in America occurred, but it was bound to happen.

Compared to other stories where more people are killed in random bombings or bombs dropped by America, 2 dead is a joke. People everywhere else in the world are probably having a chuckle, like "lulz...only 2 dead? They just dropped a bomb on my neighbouring town and killed 20, and nary a peep on their news stations".

Wasn't saying that everybody that shows empathy is faking, but in the case of high profile situations like this especially, many people just follow the trend of appearing empathetic. Nobody wants to be the bad guy to say that they have no feelings for what happened.
