Better Catalog: Nas vs. Ice Cube...

I voted Nas. The last 3 albums he dropped put him over the top for me.

Hip Hop is Dead, Untitled, Distant Relatives give his catalog a lot of depth and diversity and are arguably as good as anything he ever put out.

If this was 5 years ago I woulda said Cube.

The ic is tripping, nas catalog is full of hit and miss. His first was dope and then he spent years in the wilderness, came back with stillmatic but once again lost steam. Cube was a dominant force when both the east and the west were at a peak. And unlike nas, he actually is one of the best emcees at making a social commentary and being able to back it up. Cube wins by a mile

you must be fuckin kiddin me......

Nas catalogue wins by a landslide. it aint even debatable. Nas and Cube at social commentary they bout even. Cube after Lethal Injection hiz catalogue wuz inconsistent...

Nas has backed up his social commentary music by him leadin the masses to protest against fox news racial insults to president obama, went on CNN to condemn gang violence in chicago, went to trenchtown-birht place of reggae chilled wit the marley family and built with the rastas, recorded an album dedicated to the motherland which has inspired the youth to form political parties which are being used to rebel against dictatorship, neo colonialism and status quo. what has Ice cube done lately?

Ice cube is a legend no doubt. prolly top 7 but he aint touchin Nas and never will. Cube watered down his music. thats a fact.

Pac,Nas,Wu,ATCQ,Talib,Common,Mosdef,Brand Nubian,Krs always stuck to the message that they came to the game with.

Cube has 3 Classics

Nas has 4

Nas. Cube's catalog gets super watered down after the 1st half of his career.

This one is tough b/c both has some disappointing drops. I think i slightly go with Nas very very slightly. And that's based off Cube's last album being pretty weak. Raw Footage was dope as hell then cube dropped the ball. While i thought Hip Hop is dead was kinda boring Untitled and Distant relatives were both good drops. Cube had like 4 years where for some strange reason he just kept screaming at us. WE BE CLUBBIN shit was wack. Those war and peace cd's especially volume 2 were pretty weak. Nas almost lost me completely with Streets Disciple.

By a mile? Really? Naw. Nas is better, but its not like one is that far ahead of the other. In terms of catalog. MC Skills then Nas is also definitely better.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that during a great majority of the 90's, Ice Cube was the face of the westcoast. Even more so than Deathrow Records. Cube had respect among both coasts (as did Nas). Your talking about a man who was never afraid to speak his mind, whether it would be about Jews, White People, Sellout Niggas, Police Brutality, didnt matter. His storytelling ability was like you where there. In no way am I down playing Nas's story-telling ability, dude was a genius with his lyrics, but IMO, Cube takes it by a couple inches for the reasons I just typed.

this is a part of Cube's legacy that many don't bring up off the bat. But when quizzed on 'who's the GOAT story teller?', the answer is usually Cube.

It Was a Good Day
Once Upon a Time in the Projects
Gangsta's Fairytale
Gangsta's Fairytale 2
The Product
Dead Homiez
Growin up
Can't Fade Me
My Summer Vacation
Little Ass G

Cube is a lock for top 5, but Nas is the GOAT.lets not forget that Nas wuz krs,Grap,Rakim and slick wrapped into one emcee when he came to the game and stil is. Nas diversity in content/subject matter and conceptually kills Ice Cube. Cube cant craft mafioso album like IWW, can Cube record a whole album dedicated to afrika and successfully tackle issues like ancestry, poverty, political corruption, religion and sound perfect in an album laced in african/reggae beats? Can Ice Cube record a 'hiphop is dead' album? Nas is the van gogh of hiphop. He wil never be appreciate til hz gone.

theres too many classic storytelln Nas songs to list. Its bout 20 or more of them.
