Better Album: "Born Sinner" vs "Nothing Was The Same"

As an overall product, I enjoyed listening to NWTS over Born Sinner.

Quite honestly, it took me a while to finish listening to Born Sinner... the vibe of the album is just too dull for me, yes the lyrics are there but lyrics aren't everything. I enjoyed his first album a lot more.

Drake's subject matter and singing isn't for everybody but dude could rap... it is what it is. He's never going to please the rap heads that just want straight lyrics.

Born sinner had the lyrics, NWTS had the production. Both were disappointments in the long run.

J Cole is delusional about his production and it's holding him back.

Drake is delusional about his singing and it's holding him back.

I dont think its the production tho.. its his hooks thats holding him back to me.. he seem like he went to Lil Boosie School of Hook Making

It's the production. J Cole production has one vibe, dude has no variety in his sound. Can you say J Cole has ever made a club banger(I'm on one) or a street banger (I'm a boss), all his beats are some mellow/jazzy vibe. Even his idol Kanye knows how to diversify his sound, not everything was (Everything i am, Addiction, etc).

I know what im getting from cole and i accept that.. i like his production.. and he is getting pretty good with it imo

And that sir is the problem, YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GETTING FROM J COLE. The same fucking shit, he isn't evolving at all, still playing the underdog and making the same type of beats.

I think Cole production peaked at Friday Night Lights. Dude was very good at producing.

His new shit is either sound like he is over thinking it or its not impactful.

That's true, but the exact same can be said of Drake. There were zero surprises on NWTS

I agree but atleast Drake has presence about him and make it a point to make entertaining music. J Cole borderline dellusional about his production ability and it's so obvious it's the thing that's holding him back as a artist.

Why was The Warm Up and FNL so good, because half of the beats weren't his. lol

The songs he didn't produce have more life to It. There is a reason why his two albums have come up short. His sound is very linear
