If you listen to the entire album from front to back, and you listen to Cole in his interviews...the album not only makes sense but it flows well. The point of the album is to be his personal story. It's him giving you his autobiography...from Sideline, to Starter, to Star. Every song fits and that's because he DIDN'T have a bunch of people with their hands in his project telling him what type of song he needed to make. He wanted to do it on his own and Jay gave him the space to do that. You guys overrate the "Executive Producer" and all of these people that have their hands in these records that many of you claim aren't as good as the artists mixtapes that they put out. I always see a bunch of folks saying how the album is never as good as the mixtape and that's because there are no Executive Producers and A&R reps on the mixtapes, just the true artist. Cole was able to keep this album true to himself and what he wanted to do because he didn't have to succumb to label pressures.

No one... not one great album ever didn't have a great Exec producer helming it from the other side. You need someone who is away from the product to get an idea of where the cohesion is.
He goes from tlaking about being signed, to getting chicks, to lusting after chicks, to after sex...to a million other things.
It aint a biography...it comes off like he tried in a wierd way to mimic the Miseducation of Lauren Hill and just couldnt get it 100% right.

Anywho... I have heard a lot of people, even in written reviews, have the feeling that it just didn't feel right. That goes to sequencing and the length and candor of songs. You sound kind of stannish right now actually.
As I stated before:
I dont mind Lights Please and In The Morning being on the album proper. They are good songs. I just think sequencing them different, maybe moving sideline story up earlier int he rotation and using that intro, cutting up the skits to intro into sections of the album (think Late Registration...just not as long as those skits were) and packaging some of those songs to resonate a feeling... I like Who dat coming out of an interlude as well.
It aint the song selection ( Maybe I would have tossed premeditated murder in there) but just sequencing and editing.
THey don't have any classic LP's so the discussion is out of it.
Puff Dame Dash Hip Hop...these are people that can do that.

AHH Reviews aint been credible since 09.
I am basing that off of all the classic ROC releases ( CD,Late Registration,Blueprint,Reasonable Doubt, B.Coming)
Jay has said multiple times that he stayed out of that stuff. Does his tenure @ Def Jam and Roc Nation releases not prove this?
This album reaks of amateur placement.
I think they would have agreed the song placement was fine, but making some small changes to create an album experience. He just made a CD full of decent to good songs.
