no... but they are more important when it comes to talkin about reggaeton history....

i mean let's be serious... u got joe, pun, terror squad (back in the day), cypress hill, pitbull, .... fuck i just probably named half of the relevant latino rappers of all time... if not 3/4

now look at how much of the black people put into hip hop... are you really gonna tell me it's even remotely close???? so how the fuck could they be JUST as important in the history of hip hop???? yes they have a small part... but thats about it

Well i see where u coming from but u have to remember that latino rappers or rappers that happen to be latinos get categorized because they latinos..... So labels wanted to market them strictly to the latino audience...the ones u mention were rare cases i guess or had some type of cosign....

crazy legs is puerto rican, GOAT breakdancer

so yeah, the breaking element belongs to the Latinos, not the blacks

For the record reggaeton its more like a puerto rican thing (even tho it was created in panama)....its hard to be accepted if ur mexican and u do reggaeton....for some reason it looks silly....

Latinos bump reggaeton but ricans control that shit.......

latinos were there with us early on....check the cold crush brothers...now to say they are as important as black people would be pushing it a bit far...they were sprinkled in here and there but they were not the face, they were not the founders...they were part of crews in the late 70s and early 80s....

Our Latino brothers are just as important as Black people with the pioneering of HipHop culture, some of the greatest Graf writers and B-boys were Latino's.

The almighty Zulu Nation was compromised of Blacks and Latino's and they were the first organization to rep what we know as HipHop culture.

Latino's can claim a Top 5 rapper Big Pun
Latino's can claim a Top 5 graf artist Lee "Zorro' Quiones
Latinos can claim a top 5 B-boy Frostee Freeze

Dont even get me started on the Beatnutz and cuts like "off the books" and Ghostface's "One" or movies like "Wildstyle"...and Nore is my dawg.

Latinos are a very important part of Hiphop and without them hiphop wouldnt be the culture that it is....

uhm, you know most latinos are mix race blacks, right?

Anyways, this topic is dumb to ask. Obviously there are more black people contributing to hip hop than spics.

But we'll always have a place in it. Ya'll show us love.

i think we are mixed w spaniards and europeans more than we are w blacks.............

About the showing love part hmmmmmmmm not always..........

One of my asian friends brought up a good point: them koreans/japanese have taken breaking to greater heights (no pun intended) because of their shorter, lighter frames (making the moves much easier to do than if you're as big as lamar odom)....completely unrelated to the topic but since you mentioned breaking I had to mention this.

true, but with 1 out of each of those top 5s being Latino, chances are that in each category the other 4 are black.

important? YES.

as important as blacks? lol, let's not turn this into a race thing.

Latinos contributed to the start in the Bronx, so they were important, but no, they weren't as important as blacks to hiphop history

la republica dominicana (where my fams from), colombia, puerto rico, peru, argentina, bolivia, cuba, chile etc all have african ancestry. Colombus' brought slaves to all these countries after discovering them.

If ur from any of those countries, it's likely ur a mix-breed.

dominicanos i agree, ricans are divided cause they have light skinned dudes (european mixed) people from peru have that indian look not dissin but their facial features are obvious, argentinians are all light skinned (european) bolivia (well same as peru) cuba no doubt black roots but also european and chile well same as argentina

im mexican by the way....

Here's my viewpoint. Yes Latino's have played a major part in hip hop, both as contributers but mostly as consumers. If it wasn't for them rap wouldn't reached it's peak in the 90's. Like 99% of the young American latino community listened to and purchased rap music.

They got nice groundrock but they cant lock for shit, my boy Mr Animation out here on the West could eat up Korea and japan for breakfast and still have room for China.

I never said 'as important, I said as important in the PIONEERING of the culture.

No doubt we dominate, but they still played an important role in the inception of the culture, these are not my words these are the words of Afrika Bambataa, the Godfather of HipHop.

I dont know many latino rappers compared to black rappers but Cuban link is cool, Big pun changed the game, Fat Joe though i don't like him was cool, Tony sunshine is a cool singer and the Beatnuts were great also.
