People always bring me their computers to remove viruses. Malwarebytes is your friend and it is free. Can't count how many times people have paid me $20 to rid their computers of viruses and all I did was run Malwarebytes. Every now and then I'll use Combofix for the really "clingy/tricky" viruses. The only 99% way to not get a virus is to stay off of the internet altogether and don't plug in any external media into your computer. With that said...have fun w/ your solitaire and pre-installed bloatware.

Honestly, hypervisors and virtualization is the future. install comodo dragon or get the vmare server and run an isolated desktop in a virtual environment. whatever virus u get on that wont infect your local hard drive. if u feel a certain way about a particular program and are not sure whether its completely safe or not, virtualization gives u the ability to sandbox the application to see if its truly infected. ive been doing this for a while now and despite all of the malware and trojans my virtual desktop is infected with, my local drive on the real desktop is virus free.

I used to do this back in the day.....just download and install the suspect apps in a virtual environment. I haven't used comodo in years though. Shit was a resource hog.

doesn't work as well as it used to. Malware tookits now include an option to have checks run to see if the code is being run in a virtualized environment. It's so easy to check for it that I'd be surprised if newer malware DIDN'T do this. I've run across some that simply stop executing if it detected vmware, virtualbox, or whatnot. Take the same file to a physical machine and it runs without a hitch. I keep a machine at my desk here at the office for this very reason.

Also, a lot of them can pick up on whether it's being run in a debugger or not.

Sadly, the best solution is completely too expensive for the average person to use: a FireEye Web MPS appliance.

Use BitDefender Internet or Total Secuirty 2013 with the crack or keygen off of torrent site. I just upgrade evry month after using that to the latest one.

SuperAnti Spyware PRofessional can be downloaded off torrents also

Check every few months for the updates
