To the Foxy Brown "Stylin" beat?

While you was on radio complainin' bout Summer Jam
I was in flip flops in the South of France
See how it flip flops on the number 1 station for hip hop and R&B
You thought Summer Jam was starrin' you, It was starrin' me
Even in my absence my presence is felt
I gotta tell you I'm the king dog if nothin' else
I'm on another continent you still ain't content
I'm in the Mediterranean you still ain't been
Explain to me why I wanna be you again
You on the radio cryin' I'm learnin' to swim

-Jay-Z

If Jay had taken his time after Ether and had come back with a entire diss song dedicated to Nas (no freestyle like Supa Ugly, no part diss like BP2), he would have won the battle, and Nas would be meaningless right now. Jay made one mistake after another once Ether dropped.

- rushing an answer to Ether and seeming desperate considering the wackness of Supa Ugly
- mumbling on the radio like a mental patient
- admitting he lost on BP2 (which i can respect but at the same time its a sign of weakness)
- like I said, not making a "real" answer, a whole diss song.

Just imagine Jay coming back with Takeover 2 one month after Ether. 48 bars dissing the shit out of Nas. It would have been a blowout.

This is the South of France thing. Skip to 2:10:

Yea this is what I didnt understand.

He knew Nas was gonna come at him hard, why didn't he have a plan?

Did he think the one verse on Takeover was going to be it?

I guess he was too self-assured after Takeover. I was too young back then, but from what i understand after Takeover dropped not only Jay himself but the whole public thought Nas was finished. Maybe he believed that too and took it too easy and was shocked at the way that Nas came back at him. And thats when he lost control over the situation. He should have read the art of war.
