i would think that you scout in the day to make sure no one is creepin up on your campsite in the day,,sdoin recon,,im pretty sure law enforcement has some type of recon they run,,shit is silly

The survivors at the camp got too comfortable with their position. They should have been on alert once that one walker got close and ate the deer, but their minds were on dude digging ditches, other random shit, and the tasty fish dinner (no hot sauce) they just ate.

In a situation like that, they should always be on the move. The zombies move day and night, so the camp would eventually would have been found.

So what was the body count this episode...........5-6? 2 known characters and a few randoms?

This scene happened to the comics also, or course it was slightly different.

According to the book, the zombies are starting to find nothing in Atlanta, so they are starting to wander to different areas. I think Rick predicted this would happen in the comics because he was telling Shane that need to move, but Shane was being stubborn. They didn't show that scene in the tv show though.

Also, about the scouting part. The majory of the time people get killed by zombies in the walking dead is because they were being stupid and careless. Given how late it was, it would have given the zombies plenty of time to sneak up on them, there are trees all around that place, they could have missed them when they were scouting earlier in the day. (if they did any scouting at all)

Am I the only one who thought the building up the rocks for a bigger fire kinda being pointless? The rocks are just gonna block the heat anyways so the fire isn't really be that much better anyways.
