There's room for everybody to eat. Obviously there's more to it then just being able to spit out of your mind.

But what quite a bit of really lyrical rappers lack or wack rappers don't have are HOOKS. If you don't have a good chorus making capability, then it's really hard to be successful (generally mainstream).

All rappers pick bad beats from time to time.

This is just some shit people say to downplay great artists.

Its simple, I been in the studio and seen it.

Lyrical cats prefer sparse production so their listeners can focus more on their words, and wordplay.
Its kinda like when you go to a poetry-jam and the spoken-word poets
have the light drum-beat in the background instead of a garage band.

Lyrical rappers are not trying to make club-bangers with cinematic production
that will overshadow their lyrics, and the fans of lyrical rappers are not
the typical fans of catchy-hook, call & response, bass-heavy music that bangs in the whip

Alot of rappers cater their music to the listening styles of their core fanbase.

I think it's more of the underground rappers who are like that, just horrible ass beat selection and can't flow for shit.

Its cuz they are broke and can't get good beats so they start out rappin' over bullshit and grow accustomed to that.
