Bruh bruh, if alotta lyrical cats had good beat selection how would wack rappers with good beat selection eat?

There's room for everybody to eat. Obviously there's more to it then just being able to spit out of your mind.

But what quite a bit of really lyrical rappers lack or wack rappers don't have are HOOKS. If you don't have a good chorus making capability, then it's really hard to be successful (generally mainstream).

U know there are many established producers who use Fruity Loops right??

It really doesn't matter what kind equipment is being used, it's the guy that's using it. Remember dat.

Real talk.

Let me give you a physical example:

Gettin Krunk wit Lil Jon, he da livest in the south

Fuck around and you get wires in your mouth

Cowards I despise and my power keeps on risin

Niggas try to hate me but they keep recognizin

When you hear Nas on a crunk-beat you can say he's an ABC rapper with simplistic rhymes.

Planets in orbit, line em up with the stars

Tarot cards, you can see the pharaoh Nas

"Nas is like.." Iron Mike, messiah type

Before the Christ, after the death

The last one left, let my cash invest in stock

Came a along way from blastin, techs on blocks

When you hear Nas on a stripped-down beat with sparse production (boom-bap) he spits like the GOAT.

Two different styles and two different types of listeners.

LOL...exactly. I was thinking about Nas-Quick to Back Down when I typed that.

they pick the beats that they feel sets the mood for what they're talking about. a slower pace beat may be suitable for what they are rapping about.

seems that dope beats is a preference, could be mistaken, but it seems as if production isnt dope if it isnt played in the club or {bangs in the whip}....I know cats that will laugh at a certain style of production and call it wack, just like the {bang in the whip} crowd would call production thats not their preference wack....I call it a preference because how easy is it for cats to go get beats thatsay, rick ross uses, but said rapper might not like those type of beats....cats seemed to be programmed yo,

lol lyricists rap over wacc beats for the same reason why niggas make wacc beats: THEY DON'T KNOW THAT THE BEAT IS WACC lol

I don't think most of them underground niggas write to half of their beats
they write the song first and then try to find the beat that best fits the song

The beats are not horrible to them. I don't know how hard of a concept that is for you niggas to grasp. They not sittin in the studio saying.."Man, that beat is wack as fuck, I gotta spit over that."

I disagree with the premise of this thread.

All rappers pick bad beats from time to time.

This is just some shit people say to downplay great artists.

Only "lyrical cat" that really has a history of picking bad beats is Canibus.

Its simple, I been in the studio and seen it.

Lyrical cats prefer sparse production so their listeners can focus more on their words, and wordplay.
Its kinda like when you go to a poetry-jam and the spoken-word poets
have the light drum-beat in the background instead of a garage band.

Lyrical rappers are not trying to make club-bangers with cinematic production
that will overshadow their lyrics, and the fans of lyrical rappers are not
the typical fans of catchy-hook, call & response, bass-heavy music that bangs in the whip

Alot of rappers cater their music to the listening styles of their core fanbase.

I think it's more of the underground rappers who are like that, just horrible ass beat selection and can't flow for shit.

Its cuz they are broke and can't get good beats so they start out rappin' over bullshit and grow accustomed to that.
