Its simple, I been in the studio and seen it.

Lyrical cats prefer sparse production so their listeners can focus more on their words, and wordplay.

Its kinda like when you go to a poetry-jam and the spoken-word poets

have the light drum-beat in the background instead of a garage band.

Lyrical rappers are not trying to make club-bangers with cinematic production

that will overshadow their lyrics, and the fans of lyrical rappers are not

the typical fans of catchy-hook, call & response, bass-heavy music that bangs in the whip

Alot of rappers cater their music to the listening styles of the core fanbase.

Yep....same shit. Hard to be lyrical over a Downsouth Banger, easy to rip a Premo beat.

Wayne=Carter til Now

Kanye=Forever(no pun)

plus they didnt make that list that made the haters hate for nothing

IMO wayne aint been the same since Carter 2 and Kanye was never lyrical to me hes a solid rapper but when I think of lyricist I'm thinkin of dudes like GZA, Cannibus, Pharoe Monch, and Nas but i guess we have different definitions

It doesn't have to be a downsouth banger beat. But why does it have to be str8 up boring?

Let me give you a physical example:

Gettin Krunk wit Lil Jon, he da livest in the south
Fuck around and you get wires in your mouth
Cowards I despise and my power keeps on risin
Niggas try to hate me but they keep recognizin

When you hear Nas on a crunk-beat you can say he's an ABC rapper with simplistic rhymes.

Planets in orbit, line em up with the stars
Tarot cards, you can see the pharaoh Nas
"Nas is like.." Iron Mike, messiah type
Before the Christ, after the death
The last one left, let my cash invest in stock
Came a along way from blastin, techs on blocks

When you hear Nas on a stripped-down beat with sparse production (boom-bap) he spits like the GOAT.

Two different styles and two different types of listeners.

It doesnt have to be. I think Justice League & a few others got it right. Where it's slow enough for a nigga to be extra lyrical but, still smooth enough for listeners to bop they head to.

well we just go agree to disagree cuz i put Nas around the same lyrical ability of Ye, Jay, Wayne,

Yeah Ross proves you can be lyrical over a downsouth beat.
Like in Nas' case, dude just didnt have the skills to jump on a downsouth banger and feel at home.
Its not his fault tho, some ppl just arent as well rounded

their underround and dont get picked up by major labels or get big cosigns so they cant afford good beats, they just buy them off some kid making beats on fruity loops

U know there are many established producers who use Fruity Loops right??

It really doesn't matter what kind equipment is being used, it's the guy that's using it. Remember dat.

Yea the rapper I compare this thread to the most is Nas, he has some good beat selects but most of them are trash. Like SD, that album was almost a classic in my eyes but the beat selection were horrible on most of the songs.

Simple beats are easier to flow over so that way some lyrical rappers can fit ten million syllables into each bar and not sound like amateurs.

Put a lyrical rapper on a hot beat to test if they can really flow.
