Wale-The Album About Nothing

with this album i kinda got a vibe that he was tryna force himself to be viewed at the top, when that came natural with his second(and my favorite of his) album Ambition. The Production was solid throughout but nothing too much stood out imo. Lyrically it was solid as well but not as many gems as i expected. It's pretty much an alright album. The first few tracks are interesting but not quite to the point where id replay em again except maybe white shoes and the pessimist. And then we get to the one night in houston and the girls on drugs, based on other reviews i expected these to be on point, at least melodically but the houston track started off wrong imo as soon as he started singing in a screwed voice, and girls on drugs was just aight, expected a more melodic sample/beat. ill say if there is a stand out, the need to know is one of those songs, great hook interpolation, dope song. prolly coulda been a hit single. the next couple tracks are cool, the bloom stands out a lil there. i also think the matrimony is dope and could have been a single and the body is a cool single, i might not go out my way to play it but if it comes on i wouldnt turn it. But overall i feel like wale needed and could have came harder musically with this. he wants to force himself to be mentioned with kendrick, cole, and drake but imo this dont do it. but hey nothing wrong with musically being in the next best tier with guys like sean or b.o.b.

Rating: 6/10(slightly above average)

I'm gonna keep Joey and Wale open til we get 1 more review from each, so anyone who wants to drop something for those, feel free.

My problem is you really don't take anything from listening to the album.. at least I don't. At the end of a listen it's just like... "oh aight" .... nothing is fantastic about it. Most of everything is just good.. there's some great.. and some bad. But nothing special.

ALLA review

I gave this album another spin and I decided to give it an 8. It grew on me and I can honestly say that I liked the majority of it.

I can see why some people dislikes it tho. People aren't used listening to asap on these types of beats. They expect bangers and raw shit. But Iike I said before, this majority of the songs are smooth and trippy. Overall, this a good album. Long live asap is still slightly better, although this album did show how rocky improved his lyricism.

Final score 8/10
