Good song, but not the most powerful ever. As other people stated its not even the best or most "powerful" song on the album. What Goes Around and Poison are the two that come to mind as better right now.
For those saying the song was all over the place, it sort of was, but on purpose, cause at the end of the day it doesn't matter all the chaos that is going around him, all he needs is ONE MIC! That what the song is about. That Jesus line was horrible on the song though. He died at age 33, so what does that have to do with the amount of bullets in his gun? I may have missed something there, just a minor flaw in the song.
You dont get that line?? You forget who went to hell at 12 for snuffing Jesus??

Yes I remember that line, but what does that have to do with this one? I still do not understand this "died at age 33" line. If you could enlighten a simpleton such as myself, I would appreciate it.

this song, 2nd Childhood, What Goes around, and Every Ghetto make Stillmatic a classic. Even that trash Braveheart Party can't alter that.

I can admit that Braveheart Party is garbage LOL.... I still think Stillmatic is one of the best albums of all time, just for Every Ghetto, My Country, 2nd Childhood, Rewind.... you know what? the whole album is a classic cept that Mary J and Swizz trash... Nas fucked up by putting the Bravehearts on... now them niggas should be on the 100 worst rappers list if they aint already lol

The context of the song: He doesn't need the flashy jewelry, cars, scandalous groupie women and beef that comes within the negatives of Hip Hop..it's nothing to him, but having one microphone to spit ill lyrics, the positive in Hip Hop is more potent than any of those things. Nas is basically saying you need the simple things to make life in Hip Hop easier..

Nas' verses are a mixture of free association and poetry, so it's not gonna be centralized on a single subject, you have to break this song down by each verse.

what he said
