Agree or Disagree: Top 10 Important Albums in Hip Hop History

I can see the argument for MMLP because of the whole "freedom of speech" issue but Straight Out of Compton is the bigger album in that regard. I said earlier it was a solid list but MMLP is the only album to me that could be disputed. I'd replace it with the Geto Boys "Grip It, On that Other Level". It along with the group helped pave the way for future southern acts. The first southern hip hop album to go gold and in 1989 no less.

No Bone Thugs...niggas went diamond

MMLP......SSLP or Encore

Anyways people gotta leave the 90s and respect the 15 years of music after

Tech N9ne should make the list just off gp

GRODT possibly too

If you're going to put Tech N9ne you might as well add Shenco.

Nope lol I know it had a big impact on rap tho.

I would replace The Marshall Mathers LP with Only Built For Cuban Linx. Other than that it's a pretty good list.

2 Live Crew fits the whole "sparked a national debate about Freedom of Speech" concept way more than MMLP.

I thought of NWA and Scarface too but they focused more on the ills facing their communities and free speech in THAT regard to liberate them & not be ignored. Eminem fought for freedom of speech to say whatever the fuck he wanted about the hypocrisies of popular culture in American mainstream music. No other rap album did that. Marshall was going at popstars how 50 did rappers (saying that America's sweetheart at the time Britney Spears was a hoe, Chistrina Aguilera sucked Fred Durst's dick etc.), he touched on depression and coping mechanisms, frustration towards his parents, and was extreme about it (threatening to kill his mother and wife, knowing his girl was cheating on him, being bullied, & more). Marshall's plight was that Detroit created the circumstances but mainstream America made him like that and that he shouldn't have to be censored for saying the same things that made him. That's why The Real Slim Shady song was so powerful and carried the way it did.

In the words of Rakim Allah the god MC - the problem most niggas have is that Eminem is white.[b\]

As far as the IC goes, I see that too. Can Em be a lil overrated at times, hell yeah especially with certain people who's name I won't mention. Race don't have shit to do with him be an great MC which he has for a long period of time. He still made a big impact. MMLP is a great album, a classic that did push boundaries as far as the subject matter no question. I just would of had it in the honorable mentions portion rather than the top ten. That's just me.

No Jay album but MMLP is up there??? I don't think anybody can tell what importance that album has had on hip hop besides given white ppl some rap they crazy asses can relate to

When I saw Nas at #2 I was WTF? Who is higher than Nas?

But then when they put Wu-tang at #1 then I was like... I can see that argument could be made.

Not a bad list... I think Beastie Boys "Licensed to Ill" was more influential than Eminem though.

No Beastie Boys... no lane for Eminem as a respectable "white" rapper...

Nope. List is biased. I would've took Reasonable Doubt off. Shuffled a few around. Made room for 400 Degrees or even Kings Of Crunk. Once again this is a white guys list. Our southern brothers were not represented in OUR genre.

Reasaonable Doubt wasn't even on it though...

LMAO who is that?

Haven't watched.... I know The Chronic has to be #1 though. Those Dominoes are still falling.
