I don't really think they are being hypocritical. They aren't criticizing artists nowadays for being sexual. They are criticizing artists like Rihanna for creating this atmosphere where everyone feels like defining themselves solely by there sexuality is the thing to do.

A single pic where everyone is still covered up is completely different than Rihanna's entire M.O. of perpetuating an increasingly more and more slutty public image. Nothing is wrong with women showing off their sexuality, but with Rihanna it's like she's actively trying to see how much of a whore she can get away with being before people finally say "Enough."

Why does a woman showing off her body whenever, however she pleases, and owning her sexuality equate to her being a "whore"

The fact that in there is a breaking point that would warrant a collective "enough" , suggest that you and like minded individuals only tolerate certain public displays of female sexuality and don't necessarily think its "nothing wrong with it"

I don't care one way or the other. It's her body. She can do what she wants to. But there is nothing tasteful about what Rihanna does. As others have already noted, she uses getting naked as a way to keep herself relevant. When she doesn't have a hit song on the record, you can bet that there will be some pics of Rihanna half or more naked being dropped. That's whorish.

I agree that she shouldn't be shamed for something that a male wouldn't be shamed for, but at the same time men aren't the ones that are regularly being sexually objectified in the real world as women are. You can own your sexuality without flaunting it. If we're going to start having men appreciate women for more than their skin, we're going to have to stop giving impressionable boys with still developing minds a reason to look at females that way. Idealism, in my opinion, only works in theory, and simply pointing that its a double standard isn't going to mean a thing to a kid who doesn't yet understand his own hormones. This then leads the girls/young women to attempt to fit that sexualized mold to garner the attention of the boys, rather than promoting their other less shallow characteristics. Again, as young people, these girls aren't going to likely listen to reason and simply 'not do what everyone else is doing,' because, well, that's never been the case in human history.

Anyway, long story short, I think women would be better empowered by showing less rather than showing more, but I'm a male so I could obviously be wrong in your eyes. I don't think anyone is a whore or slut for doing what these women do nor does it bother me in any way, but I do think they're taking the "easy way" rather than putting in the work to build something more valuable.
