Oh snap...

another example of shaming a woman for owning her body and having agency over her sexuality...

Original

Why the feelings? ...i mean I am right, that is exactly what is going on here

Not as if we condemn men for flaunting their bodies and sexuality

Lets keep it real

I agree that she shouldn't be shamed for something that a male wouldn't be shamed for, but at the same time men aren't the ones that are regularly being sexually objectified in the real world as women are. You can own your sexuality without flaunting it. If we're going to start having men appreciate women for more than their skin, we're going to have to stop giving impressionable boys with still developing minds a reason to look at females that way. Idealism, in my opinion, only works in theory, and simply pointing that its a double standard isn't going to mean a thing to a kid who doesn't yet understand his own hormones. This then leads the girls/young women to attempt to fit that sexualized mold to garner the attention of the boys, rather than promoting their other less shallow characteristics. Again, as young people, these girls aren't going to likely listen to reason and simply 'not do what everyone else is doing,' because, well, that's never been the case in human history.

Anyway, long story short, I think women would be better empowered by showing less rather than showing more, but I'm a male so I could obviously be wrong in your eyes. I don't think anyone is a whore or slut for doing what these women do nor does it bother me in any way, but I do think they're taking the "easy way" rather than putting in the work to build something more valuable.

Yea but your kinda putting all the onus on women for being objectified though... while both men and women are to blame, I don't see how being sexually open is an invitation to someone degrading me or any woman the status of a mere object

And while you make some good points I believe the only way we can give young boys and girls a greater appreciation for the female body/ female sexuality is by acknowledging that women should be in control of their own bodies, acknowledging like men all women are sexual beings not just "sluts" and "whores" , and by stop reducing female sexuality to a prize to be won

I kinda agree rihanna is taking the "easy way", she's taking advantage of her looks, etc ...but my point was just we should respect that it's her choice and stop with the hypocrisy

id say men are just as responsible, as they fuel the market for this behavior, and they hold most of the executive positions that are pressuring these women to promote themselves in this manner or go home empty handed. the ultimate power is in them hands of women though.

i agree its not an invitation, but when you sexualize something without balance, you make yourself appear to be one dimentional and people arent going to look beyond that. id say in this particular issue, thats the case.

i again agree, but theres a line between normal sexuality and hypersexualized objectification, and again when we dont offer any balance, we confuse young minds.

its certainly hypocritical, but its also much more detrimental to the girls/women than the boys/men, which is why it can seem one sided most of the time (for those that bother to look beyond the shaming aspect)

You could've stopped after the bolded. She chooses to conduct herself as a slut and she should be called out on that. Whether we want it or not she's a rolemodel for some of these young girls. Who would want their daughter to act like her?

rihanna imo has the type of body that looks tasteful even in something like a sheer dress. she has her own style, she has the body for it, no problem to me.

it's crazy to me how cool we are as a society with always seeing violence, but god forbid a cute girl is scantily clad. which is really more detrimental to the psyche?

send me some newds then.

Let's be honest. Rihanna is a dumb industry sex slave. There's no intention behind her posing nude. She does it for attention. She's allowed to do it if she wants to, but let's not act as if it's somehow a liberating statement to do something that Josephine Baker did 60 years ago.

TLC DIDN'T need to sell sex. I think they had a message that was geared towards female empowerment. They had songs about HIV and safe sex that were coupled with being comfortable with their sexuality. I don't get any kind of consciousness from Rihanna's end. TLC offered street smarts while all Rihanna offers is physical beauty and sex, but without depth.

if i so chose that would be my prerogative, rihanna chose to so it's her prerogative

let some muslims tell you my wearing crop tops and shorts is the equivalent of rih in a sheer dress, it's all about perspective

but really tho, what harm is there in seeing her like that? but how many violent movies and shows are a-okay. i don't have a problem with the latter either

thats cool... about them newds...

It's just recently she's been od'ing with the nekkedness it doesnt equate to her being talentless and having her career depend on it.

I'm not a fan but she got hits and is a free spirit. She doesn't bother me

Funny...now we asumming every man a woman has dated, she has had sex with

And yea I get sex sells but why everytime a female artist shows alittle skin or speaks openly about sex we automatically assume she's doing it for the notoriety, why can't it not just be her personality

We don't question trey songs

Maybe rihanna is a bad example

Good response

Again while they deserve some blame, I still can't put the onus squarely on a young woman who is trying to earn a living or trying to emulate freshly promoted images of beauty

Really the power lies in the hand of the consumer...if people, most who are men stopped consuming hyper sexualized images of women, they would cease to exist because there obviously be no money in it

With that said, the solution can't be found in women monitoring themselves at the tail end of this system... rihanna isnt the reason why there are very few "tasteful" portrayals of "normal" women exercising their sexual agency in film, tv, music, etc

This is an issue of how much power the media has over all of us including our children

The slut shaming doesn't help either

I don't want to hear or see shit about rihanna until somebody takes a pic of her bootyhole.

I feel like that's the only thing we haven't seen yet. That and her cervix.

Question.... What will Rihanna do when she falls off? What if guys get tired of seeing her body? I mean you have women out here selling their sex appeal over everything but call themselves singers and shit. I mean at this point, Rihanna can be naked and it's front page news... She need to slow that shit down a bit before people stop caring.. We all know that we are in the love this person right quick then on to the next one generation.

so niggas and brawds mad that these females are checkin another female for being too hoeish? ...... like really? ...i mean .... god forbid we have less hoe activity from some of these ladies out here .... what would these niggas do without all these hoes!!!! .....ohhhh lawwwwddd please protect the hoes!!!

.....................................with that being said i fully support a woman's right to embrace and display her sexuality through any medium of her choosing .... i fully support rihanna in all of her efforts to liberate the female population from these social constraints and tabooing of female WOMANHOOD!

LIBERATIONNNN!!!!!!!
