By Vincent Frank on September 14, 2014
Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post reported late Sunday evening that the Minnesota Vikings may look to trade running back Adrian Peterson should the details of his child abuse case worsen.
Hubbuch had this to say in the report.
All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson could be on the trading block if even uglier details emerge from his felony child abuse case in Houston, The Post has learned.
Peterson was charged with abusing his four-year old son on Friday and turned himself in early Saturday morning.
You can check out an entire overview of the situation right here.
Minnesota deactivated Peterson for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots and is waiting on more information to come out before taking the next step.
But the allegations are serious. And this is an off-field distraction that new head coach Mike Zimmer and Co. simply don’t need at this point.
Hubbuch continued…
Vikings principal owner Zygi Wilf also scheduled a conference call Sunday night with general manager Rick Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer to go over the team’s options and next steps.
The Vikings don’t believe that the NFL is prepared to act against Peterson at this time. That could very well change during the week if more information becomes available.
As it relates to a potential trade, no team in its right mind would even think about acquiring Peterson at this point. In addition to that, the NFL would likely discourage such a deal from going down until more information comes out.
All we know right now is that Peterson was arrested on child abuse charges, released on $15,000 bond and deactivated for the Vikings second regular season game. Until more information comes out, any thought of a trade is nothing more than a pipe dream.
