Pitchfork: The world has a difficult time with the female auteur.

Bjork: I have nothing against Kanye West. Help me with this—I’m not dissing him—this is about how people talk about him. With the last album he did, he got all the best beatmakers on the planet at the time to make beats for him. A lot of the time, he wasn’t even there. Yet no one would question his authorship for a second. If whatever I’m saying to you now helps women, I’m up for saying it. For example, I did 80% of the beats on Vespertine and it took me three years to work on that album, because it was all microbeats—it was like doing a huge embroidery piece. Matmos came in the last two weeks and added percussion on top of the songs, but they didn’t do any of the main parts, and they are credited everywhere as having done the whole album. [Matmos’] Drew [Daniel] is a close friend of mine, and in every single interview he did, he corrected it. And they don’t even listen to him. It really is strange.

Bjork is speaking the truth...just look at Kanye's production credits on his last few albums and look at the "co-producers". College Dropout was basically an album styled after RZA's "For Heaven's Sake", Late Registration was similar with a more orchestraic and instrumental style thanks to Jon Brion. His style on Graduation was more progressed, but a lot of songs had obvious samples (the most obvious being 'Stronger' which was basically Daft Punk's 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' with more bass). 808's & Heartbreak was pretty much Kid Cudi's style over 808's and autotune. MBDTF had the fingerprints of Jeff Bhasker and NO I.D. all over it (listen to NO I.D's production style....not to mention his reportedly stealing Blame Game from Aphex Twin). And Yeezus was produced by Kanye, but then stripped and given it's signature sound by Rick Rubin (There's even word that Kanye's style on Yeezus was stolen from Death Grip).

And that's not even including all the ghostwriting allegedly done for him throughout all his albums.

Kanye's good, but IMO, he's not as original as a lot of people think he is. Hence why i'm inclined to take Bjork's word about Yeezus.

I agree with everything Charlamagne said right here tho

Might be the first time I've agreed with everything Charlamagne said. These dudes need to quit worrying about The Grammys while spending their money to go there and support these black shows.you know what the Grammys is about, it's been that wAy since the 80's. Niggas be shafting the black shows wanting to send in YouTube videos for them to play and shit, but they go to the damn Grammys. Hiphop and Rnb need to learn a lesson from this Beck win. Beck has been around for like 20 years or more and he still out here killing it... Meanwhile Jay Z is the only rapper from the early 90's who would even be considered for a Grammy today. They might throw sone old rnb singer in a category just to fill it out but they rarely win(shoutout to Babyface and Toni Braxton for getting one) The biggest controversy of the night IMO is them taking Ledisi's moment and giving it to Beyonce. Not only did Ledisi's sing the song, but she was Mahalia Jackson in that damn movie!(Selma) Oh I forgot, we don't have to respect Ledisi's artistry because she ain't that popular right? Fuck outta here...

Listened again. Yo, all jokes aside, he's MENTAL! Somethin aint right.

Don't his fans always say "he hasn't been the same since his mama died"?

I would think that on top of losing your mother/confidant marrying into a band of bloodthirsty gypsies isn't exactly healthy for your mental state either.

which is why it feels real odd seeing people big him up both in writing and irl (like khloe kardashian cringeworthy dick ridin). Imo this aint like he was before. Dude sounds troubled rather than 'misunderstood or passionate' like he was before. His compass is gone. 'My wife, child, and clothing line' WHAT? Lol Seein Jay z and co laugh like 'yea, Ye' man he needs help dont just laugh lol

Garbage’s Shirley Manson pens open letter to Kanye West telling him to “grow up”

WRITTEN BY FACT TEAM ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10

We’re really hoping this isn’t the start of another open letter season.

When Kanye pretended to interrupt Beck during the receipt of his award for Album Of The Year at the Grammys on Sunday, everyone thought he was just playing a harmless jape referencing the infamous Taylor Swift interruption of 2009.

Unfortunately not: Kanye then told E! News that Beck should “respect artistry” and give his Grammy to fellow nominee Beyoncé. Not one to be riled by Kanye’s comments, Beck attempted to defuse the situation by showing his admiration for both Beyonce and Kanye, commenting: “I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Beck’s attitude has had a calming effect on everyone, as Garbage’s Shirley Manson has now decided to get involved. On a post on Facebook, she called West “petty and spoilt” for his disrespect to Beck, and also told him to stop throwing his toys around.

The open letter can be read in full below – we’re looking forward to seeing who weighs in next.

Dear Kanye West

It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry.

You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.

You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt.

In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own.

Grow up and stop throwing your toys around.

You are making yourself look like a complete twat.

Ps.I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn’t need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she’s got everything covered perfectly well on her own
