You're right that people look back on this era with rose tinted lenses. Likely because it's when many of them became fans but I call a spade a spade. I mean I started watching back when Brutus The Barber Beefcake used to get huge pops and I have no problem shitting on the wacker elements of the golden era. Not back then as a kid and certainly not in retrospect. most of Wrestlemania IV and Virgil being allowed to cut promos on ppv's.

Same with the new generation era. I mean I pretty much hated WM 9 and 11 from the moment they first aired. There was a lot of filler around in the Attitude Era not to the extent of today mind you but when you mentioned Val Venis it brought back to memory another gem from '99. "I choppy your pee pee" smh. Seriously 1999 was the worst year of that decade in WWF history since 1995. Not even 1996 with the shitty failed HBK babyface run with Jose Lothario in Shawn's corner had as much blandness and this was after Razor Ramon (one of my top 3 at the time) straight up bounced and the face of the company (Shawn) was playing a role he obviously was uncomfortable with.

1999 may have been the worst year of the Attitude era, but it still good moments

Nothing is worst than 1995. You know the year of The Goon, Mantaur, Aldo Montoya etc. You know the year Mabel won King of the Ring and had that god awful WWF title match at summerslam with Diesel

Another thing is yeah those guys got pops but nobody cares about them now.

If Val Venis showed up on RAW who would know him? What about Al Snow or Scotty 2 Hotty?

Outside smarks nobody cares about those guys. They got pops and good reactions then but they aren't big stars and didn't do anything memorable.

I think people forget that big stars will always get pops. Dusty Rhodes is before damn near everybody's time an he still gets pops. Bruno still gets pops but so many guys that got over during their era wouldn't. So don't get confused that because Foley and Rock are memorable that all of a sudden Gangrel and Mideon are too.

Remember when Grandmaster Sexy was feuding with his dad and got completely no sold by the entire arena? that shit was sad to watch.

you see the real pain in his eyes as he realizes nobody has popped for him but he has to shuck around like a damn fool.

Attitude era made WWE what it was, it's a hard pill to swallow seeing what it is right now. There's some good talent but horrible storylines.
