Sean John Combs was the catalyst for this movement considering his involvement with his nemesis Suge Knight. Peep..

He was called out for dancing and being in his artists' videos too much and always wanted to be in the spotlight, but really never had the talent for the mic....until Biggie started to write for him during the recording of his Life After Death (songs like "Player Hater" for prime example) album and start of the No Way Out album and Jadakiss, who was forced to write for him (his verse "Victory") and other songs, in which Jada was hesitant to write for Diddy...because deep down Jada knew he was wack..but somehow, he was coerced (promises of money, fame but ended up being one of the 1st artists on Bad Boy to get financially raped) and eventually ended up writing for him.

Hearing songs about being how being a hater was negativity and how it prevented you not getting paid like him or others like him became the norm throughout...which was the start of the Jiggy Era of Hip Hop. Rapping about lavish living, big bank accounts, fucking dime models and being high profile was all Diddy..Big basically was rapping through Diddy until he got it and it became somewhat a cancer. It was always done, but not until Bad Boy made it into a sub-culture itself...then it trickled down to Ma$e, and Jay took the baton...well you know the rest afterwards.

After Big got killed the No Way Out gave Diddy the space he needed to vent out to those that had a problem with him from dancing in videos, having his hands deep in his artists' craft (and pockets) being a rapping executive who couldn't rap but write big checks to have other top notch MC's write for him. This itself was a problem because due to Puff's success it made it open for those who couldn't rap and was wack and live out their dream..especially if they were executives, i.e. Jermaine Dupri, Master P, ..and them signing acts that were wack and there you have it.

The whole I don't write rhymes I write checks I dumb down to make dollars wave put a huge dent in rap.But that was a long time coming the split between new jack swing and rap in the hip hop world had a big impact also cats were forced to appease this whole unrealistic baller /player image (biggie late in his career wore the suits and shoes along with Jay z and Nas for a brief time ) was a major force in that too.We had a split as far as clubs and the whole backpack thing was born regular young cats who jammed rap music were labeled backpackers while they're older brothers who were into the whole college simping thing rolled with the smoother more player esque sound. The hip hop head was forced to pick a side either he rolled with the smooth fly shit or the rugged natural relatable sounds of hip hop.If you look at it every rapper who has a softer sound or a more commercial following eventual rocks the higher end fly shit Kanye went from sneakers ,polos, and hoodies to this higher end Louis Vuitton red suit shit big Sean does this occasionally too. I hope I don't come across as rambling or I digressed too much.

them backpackers you guys stan for were all about tommy hilfiger, ralph lauren polo, etc which was considered higher end shit at the time the only difference is them new school niggas took it up another notch

discipline in sight is right..lol @ blaming this entirely on this south...lame ass niggaz dont even know ya shit..there was plenty of one hit wonders from the east coast in the late 90's..oh let's not forget all the flossing, big budget videos, and all that high profile shit niggaz was doin..big up to ya'll selective memory ass niggas..oh yeah oakland was irrelevant around this time so whatever that nigga say is aint worth shit..yea the south had may have had its share in it but initially ya'll ny niggaz sold out hip hop cause ya'll was jealous off the record sales la rappers was gettin

I remember back in '02 when Nas called out several of his peers for being wack. He called out Nelly, Cam'ron, and N.O.R.E. As a result, Cam dissed Nas. Nelly and N.O.R.E. took offense. That's why I said you have to have a diss or an apology on deck.

the south killed hiphop . newyork & midwest & west started to get pushed out the game wit the south fuckery so they had to adapted and do fuckin tracks wit these dumbass southern rappers .

absolutely.

It's hard times 4 hip hop only few artist go gold and fewer go plat. niggas tryna up they bank account and beefing with the wrong nigga is one way to make that shit shrink instead.

Because They scared if the person who they are beefing with suddenly becomes hot, they ain't eating for another 3-5 years. When cats were randomly throwing shots at Ross when he was revealed to be a former CO, cats hated on him until he blew up fast. The likes of Game and Styles P immediately apologized cause their meal ticket, the rap game, would be in danger of being taken away from them. Since then, people have been careful cause they don't know that the artist(s) they dislike can become another Ross.

What about the faggets who didn't say shit bout them racist eminem tapes, thats when really showed how pussy these rappers are

shit just changed...people started to see they were losing money by only fucking with these guys over here and not them over there.....everybody is hustlin now, there are no surprises.....if weezy put out a gospel album tomorrow the shit wouldnt surprise me....people are just doing new shit and its cool to me.....at the same time rappers still talk down on wack rappers tho...just not somebody they can get money with in the future

I'm from the south and contrary to popular belief, the south isn't doing that much better than other regions and lets not act like during the south's run that classic albums and timeless music has come from it. Don't confuse popularity for quality!

LOL at my opinion, i think most critics and hiphop heads would agree that the CHronic, Doggystyle, Illmatic, Ready to Die, and 36 Chambers are classics. Nope not my opinion, i mean what album from the south in the period of their emergence (2004 till now) are remotely anywhere near those albums level?

no u said all that lol....i was responding to the numerous answers that the south ruined the game...just tired of hearing that shit.....if all the people that were fans of other types of music just switched on em, how is that the souths fault? I could care less about a "classic" or someones opinion of "quality" b/c that changes with the next man.

and for the record Illmatic and 36 chambers received no play in my area....i only knew about those guys b/c of tv...and biggie is.....well he's biggie, who dont know about him....
