Yet Another Reason Why J. Dilla Is The Greatest Crate Digger of All Time...

Dope shit. But still my favorite digs of Dilla...

Dilla sampled this on the outro (intro) of Donuts. Message! *Keenan Ivory Wayans voice*

And...

Who finds shit like this?!

Wow @ that Jermaine Jackson story. And Houseshoes is on point with that whole hometown not respecting you thing. Little Brother went thru the same shit in NC, word to J Cole having to take his NYC sounding ass to NY to get signed. That's the thing tho, artists ahead of their time in sound don't get initial love until they get out of their bubble.

The impression J. Dilla's music made crosses musical boundaries. Listen to how emotional Flea (from the Red Hot Chili Peppers) gets in this interview when talking about what JD's music means to him (5:59):

Dilla was that nigga, I bumped so much of his shit heavy before I even knew who he was.

I'm embarrassed to say that, even though I was a big A Tribe Called Quest fan, I always thought the production team "The Ummah" was just Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

I never knew how much Jay Dee was involved with that collective until much later.

In fact, Tupac's "Do For Love" and Janet Jackson's "Got Til It's Gone" were supposedly "ghost produced" by J Dilla but other more established producers took official production credit for the songs.

the story for the bolded is that only the drums were J Ds....the drums were lifted from a J D Tribe Called Quest sample....ill look for that story in a minute

I always thought that the picture of Dilla on the cover of "Donuts" was iconic. Head nodding with the Detroit/ Dilla cap on:

But did you know there is video for that picture? It is actually a vidcap from a video from a MED track produced by Dilla called "Push"... I had heard the song before but never saw the video until today...

Check out 2:25 to see where that famous Jay Dee shot from "Donuts" comes from:

Why don't niggas just actually dig to create beats instead of going the lazy route. Shit irks the hell out of me

I get what you are saying but I think you can do both...

Study the history online, get inspiration, and then hit the record spot to do some crate digging of your own

J Dilla is inspiring people to study his music like Beethoven or Mozart...
