Look at the pic again. You see that fuzz at the very top? That hair is irritating as fuck, and hard to keep twisted. My new growth ends up unraveling if I don't go to a shop. I be having block hoes play in my head but they never get it right.

Get you one of those stretchy "headband" things, the thin black ones that people put on their heads to keep their hair out of their face.

Use it to hold your hair up towards the middle of your head in like a ponytail, and start palmrolling from the back of your head picking out dreads one by one.

By the time you get to the top, switch the band to ponytail the back of your head (thats been twisted already)

After you get done with the front, set the band in your head like you usually would to play ball or workout and tighten up the front so you get that fresh, tight look and hold on your front.

If you have that "soft" hair like i do, apply some heat so you get a longer hold.

Line it all up and gon kill em.

The struggle is real mane.... anybody from Chicago in here know where I can get em done at? I heard Christian Fields was the best in town but they tryna run me $90

I just graduated how tf ima pay that for maintenance

nigga, put the tranny porno on pause. go outside, get ya self some loc gel, hair clips to hold the dreads, and a blow dryer . that's no more than $25-$30.

then watch a video tutorial on how to twist locs on youtube . theres 50,000 of them. the more u do it , the better u get , and the better they look.

u finna save alotta money...

Any advice for freeform locs? Only been growing my hair for about 3 months, and been neglecting it the whole time. I see most people recommend the black soap.

Just went through the whole thread, I guess I'll be the only one in here with freeform/semi-freeform locs. Ill start posting pics when I'm around 6-9 months in.

Yeah, we go the maintenance route.

What made you want to freeform

Cuz there's a certain uniqueness to freeform locs, nobody's freeform locs looks like anybody elses, cuz everybody's hair grows differently , like the Weeknd's dreads looks like nobody elses dreads, Basquiat's, etc.

However I think I'm going to do "semi" freeform, meaning that I might do small modifications to my liking during the process rather than letting it do whatever it does completely.

Like shorty in this vid, she started separating them while they were growing , so now they kinda look like twisted dreads but they still have their own look.

I want to freeform but my locs long as hell right now...I'm definitely going to connect them tho cuz my locs are too skinny, I want them thicker and try to cut down the quantity by half

I think freeform locs are fire, the manicured look is boring me now and it looks like I'm following a trend smh

EDIT: @_Goldie_ if you ever come to south Florida you will see that it's the land of the freeform. It's a culture almost. We call them "wicks"

I'm gonna start getting my braiding my locs. I had it several months ago where I had my locs braided 3 ways but they were so damn tight I couldnt make it through the day lol I had unraveled them and let them free.

Think ima try it again cause my locs are long as shit now and i'm bored with it. You know shits getting real when your locs get caught in your shirt collar.

My son locs are free forming. Mainly cause he don't like to get his shit twisted. Sure enough, the kids in his class (Kindergarten) love his shit. Hell his teacher love his shit, which is crazy to me

I've always like Tego Calderon joints. I think out locs are very similar. When they were short it reminded me of Knuckles (Sonic and Knuckles fame) so I think that's why I'm chasing his style
