I fully understand your explanation of how the sentinels adapt their bodies to the attack, but when that one sentinel grabbed Colossus, he held him until his body turned into the armor that Colossus has, making it equally strong and durable. IMO, that shows that they have the ability absorb the power of whatever mutant it comes into contact with......Rogue's ability.

Almost all of the mutants that were experimented on, off camera, in the attempt to create the perfect mutant killing machine had their abilities implemented into the sentinels and those powers could be used to counter any attack against them. Lady Deathstrike, Emma Frost, and Rogue's ability's were on display in the movie assuming at some point, their genetics were engineered into the sentinels.

You can't really use deleted scenes to explain things that happen in the movie though. That shit may no longer apply. I can understand why people think that the Sentinels absorbed powers because in some way it looked like that, but ask yourself how come they weren't able to use any powers that weren't associated with the skin. For instance, they killed Blink, but they couldn't just open a gate through the barrier Magneto created, they had to blast through. They killed Storm, but they didn't suddenly start flinging lightning and controlling the wind. Every ability they showed other than the heat ray involved morphing their body shape or changing the properties of their skin similar to what Mystique could do with some enhancements.

What if they used Quicksilver's DNA, would a sentinel have the ability to run fast? If so, every living thing on the planet could be wiped out in a matter of hours.

they'd have to catch him first. lol

Quicksilver and the entire 70's parts of the movie were dope as fuck though. Give me a couple entire movies like that.

Why was quicksilver listening to "time in a bottle" but time slowed down yet it's playing in real time on his walkman in suspended time.

Why would mystique morph back into herself in front of a whole camp at the end. Why is she walking around butt naked in the whole film while in the comics, she wore a white dress.

Why send Wolverine in the 1970s to find Xavier and Magneto when they were enemies in order to find Mystique who is god-knows-where when they could have sent him just a few years earlier when Mystique was with Xavier AND Magneto and all of them where in the same Mansion and all friendly to each other and thus more prone to diplomacy?

Why not go back in time to simply ask Xavier to Jedi-rape Bolivar Trask into liking mutants and destroying his sentinels in secret instead of just stopping Mystique from killing him? Doesn’t look like a full long-term solution. Hell, if Wolverine could convince Xavier to stop using his drugs, they wouldn’t even need Quicksilver to free Magneto from the Pentagon.

Wolverine needs to go back in time to stop the Sentinel program that started in the 1970s even though the sentinel program was never seen nor mentioned in the last films that covered the 1960s through the early 2000s.

Wolverine lost his adamantium claws in the film The Wolverine and has them magically back on in the future. Did Magneto cover his bone-claws with new adamantium?

If Mystique can change her body mass to adapt to any form like Tyrion Lannister with a porn stache, why doesn't she always fight as a 7-foot-tall UFC fighter every time she has to punch people?

Why didn’t the U.S. Senate buy the Sentinel prototypes for other types of war? They might not feel mutants are a threat, but as far as we know it’s still the Cold War and I’m sure the United States Army would love to have unmanned killer-robots in the 1970s to fight communism. There is simply no way Trask’s awesome war invention would not have been bought by the American government.

Why didn’t Magneto simply use his robots to kill everyone at the White House in front of the camera crews to establish that using robots is a bad idea, completely shut-down the Mutant fear and never exposing himself? Flying with a baseball stadium is pretty cool too but a lot less logical and a lot more dangerous for him.

These directors are stretch armstronging this movie around wolverine but it makes no sense and it's disgusting.

It was alright

i liked the build but it left more to be desired.

I was waiting for a war but it never happened.

They showed the future but we didn't get a sense of how catastrophic it was.

Magneto was an afterthought.

The way he did Wolverine was tough shit looked gross. Made my skin crawl

Quicksilver's part was dope but other than that not much really stood out.

Oh yeah the sentinels were fucking them up though damn, straight fatalities in the future.

I don't feel it was better than Cap 2 not even close.

I liked how they erased the past with this movie but that just shows how often they dropped the ball.

They know they fucked up but hopefully they deliver with Apocalypse.

no arguments here, just feeling out what everyone's belief/theory on this new sentinel technology.

you say you don't believe they absorb power through touch because if so, they'd use Blink and Storm's ability. I'm thinking that Storm's ability is more "natural" since she's controlling the elements/weather, so she can summon the winds, rain, thunder/lightning at will; whereas a machine can't call on something of that nature because it was not born in nature. And Blink's power uses thought of where to open a portal and where it leads to; again, I don't think a sentinel thinks of where it's going, it follows it's target. Touching her may provide the data needed for implementation and future use, but there may be a need for additional research/experiments on her DNA to make the sentinels "smart" enough to open up a portal and know where they are headed. Plus, make them use the portals in an strategic manner to make them more effective killing machines, using stealth.

That's not really how mutant powers work though. Regardless of how silly it is, Storm's ability to control the weather is no different from Colossus' ability to harden his skin. They both result from the X gene. If Sentinels could absorb the powers granted by the X gene, they should be able to use Storm's just like they used Colossus'. The fact is they didn't show any ability outside of changing the properties of their skin. No weather control, no portals, no fire or ice projection, etc...

I hadn't heard that. I know it's definitely not true for the movieverse. There is no need for something like that in the comics either since half the mutant powers out there are as ridiculous or more ridiculous than hers.

Yeah it would've made more sense for the Sentinels to have needed Rogue's DNA considering she can actually adapt other people's powers. If I'm not mistaken, Mystique can only mimic other people's powers, not actually use them.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Writer Explains Rogue’s Cut Scenes

Although X-Men: Days of Future Past gave Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) the short end of the stick in the eyes of diehard comic book fans, one former X-Man/Woman was left out of the action entirely. We speak, of course, of Rogue (Anna Paquin), who after standing on the sidelines of the fight in X-Men: The Last Stand was recruited by director Bryan Singer for his time-hopping blockbuster. Rogue was assumed to play a larger role, but wound up left on the cutting room floor. Now, screenwriter Simon Kinberg explains exactly what deleted scenes fans can look forward to, and why they were ultimately removed.

There was a great deal of confusion surrounding Paquin’s involvement in the film from the moment marketing began to ramp up, with Singer initially expressing his regret at having to cut her “one sequence” from the film, despite a strong performance from the actress. Singer would later contradict that claim by stating that Paquin would be seen in the film (those who have seen it know it’s a brief inclusion), yet she still seemed a central enough figure to warrant a magazine cover alongside the rest of the main cast.

Since the film’s release bits and pieces of Rogue’s involvement have been uncovered or deduced, but in an interview with Empire, writer Simon Kinberg sets the record straight on exactly what deleted sequence will be made available on home video, and his motivations – both for writing the scenes, and why they were left out of the finished cut:

“The Rogue subplot was originally there because I wanted a mission for the older Charles and Eric to do, something like Unforgiven – two last gunslingers, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman – that kind of a mission for them. I just loved the idea of that. Nothing in the story necessitated that, but just for a lark, I thought it would be a cool thing to see, because we may never see it again.

“When I initially wrote that, Kitty’s power was running out, and there was this super silly serum that was down in a farmhouse… it was terrible. I don’t even think it went to script, but it went to outline, and [First Class writer/director] Matthew Vaughn said it was terrible, and he was right.”

The desire to feature Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in one last mission easy to understand, as the pair are not only two of the most integral characters in the X-Men universe, but two of the most esteemed actors of the group. As Kinberg notes, where the older Xavier or Magneto will factor in the franchise’s future is unclear, as the premise of X-Men: Apocalypse implies that their younger counterparts will handle the 1980s action.

So if the former foes were going to launch a mission, how would Rogue factor in? Some have claimed that her power-stealing ability would have been used to grant Wolverine’s healing to the wounded Kitty, but that adds a power to the young mutant without explanation. According to Kinberg, the solution was a much simpler one:

“Then I thought that if her power was winding down, they needed something stronger or someone who could take over her power. This came from a conversation with Matthew, which was about no-one having the same power as her but then realising there was someone who could take her power. I got chills. Rogue could be the McGuffin of that mission. They’d have to get Rogue out of some dark scary place, and that’s what happens. It’s a really nice sequence, and it’ll end up on Blu-ray some way down the line.

“But it does not service the main story. I thought it would increase the urgency and the stakes of the plot in the future, but it actually does the opposite, because it makes you feel like there is an answer out there. You think once Rogue gets here, we’ll have an unlimited amount of time. The ticking clock that we’d established with Kitty getting wounded and losing her powers… well, Rogue would show up and press stop on the clock. So for all of those narrative reasons, there was this ten-minute subplot that had to go.”

The sequence alluded to by Kinberg was actually (partially) revealed in the first Days of Future Past trailer, showing Rogue being carried by Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and accompanied by Magneto. Kinberg fails to offer further details on where she was located, or why she was in need of rescue in the first place. However, a quick look at the most puzzling continuity issues and dangling plot threads offers a possible answer.

According to the film, it was the mutation of Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) – the ability to alter her form to that of any other human being – that gave Bolivar Trask all he needed to craft his futuristic Sentinels. However, Mystique has been explicitly shown to be unable to replicate the powers of those she copies, so the Sentinels’ ability to do so is left entirely unexplained. Until you include a captured Rogue, that is.

Since most audiences and fans seem willing to accept the unanswered question, Kinberg seems correct in stating the sequence was an unnecessary one (after all, Rogue being able to steal Kitty’s power and send any team member days back in time to avert the entire crisis kills the suspense fairly quickly). And just so we’re clear: there’s no evidence that Rogue actually lives to complete the task.

Fans can look forward to seeing the full sequence play out when the DVD or Blu-ray of the movie is released in the coming months, and Anna Paquin’s involvement in the future of the franchise remains a mystery.
