Pretty much, Minnie Riperton could sing her ass off (Burning of the Midnight Lamp remake is my favorite song now), same with the others you named. If Aaliyah looked like Precious or the fat chick from Moesha, people wouldn't think twice of Aaliyah. It's an uncomfortable truth but it is what it is.
