^^^^^^those were the answers. none really explain why the bible was written. Belief in the biblical aspect, came by hearing in its most original form. Spreading the gospel originally was done by oral communication. What made man move away from that? The bible is one of, if not thee most misinterpreted, mistranslated book there is. We all know that a comma, or exclamation mark
can make a total difference in a sentence. Did God instruct man, or "inspire", to write the bible?
I also observed many people viewed this, but didnt reply. Interesting as seeing that people here get into the most serious debates about the bible, and they are primarily debates on the misinterpretations and translations....hmmm.
ThaChozenWun;928602 said:Because back then people had trouble explaining a lot of things. So most of what they could not explain on a grand scale was quickly attributed to some supreme god like being. Every civilization had their own concept of different kinds of gods. The three major religions you have now are all products of earlier belief systems. That is why each has aspects from beliefs before it. Over time things are added to it. A lot of what Christianity preaches isn't even in the bible. The testaments were created not only to try to explain the unknown, but to keep people in check and brainwash people into believing their cause. The use of fear for failing to follow is prevalent all throughout religious texts.
In short there were a few major reasons the bible was written.
First the OT
1. ) As a righteous way of living.
2. ) To explain away the unknown
3. ) To gain followers to their cause
Then the NT
1. ) To clean up or add anything they forgot or became faulty in the OT
2. ) To try and provide a more peaceful way of living being that the murderous, slave loving, old testament wasn't working.
3. ) Arius Calpurnius Piso writ the entire NT along with 2 others because he didn't agree with the Old Testament and wanted to create their own story.

Now, ALL of what happened, everything from the beginning Genesis to Revelations needed to be put down now because of that. So you think they'll want to pull a "Book of Eli" and memorize a whole bible? That's a lot of remembering. Writing it down was a lot easier. SURE, it's mistranslated. I don't think anyone will disagree. What else do you expect though.
We need to bible because of sin. It explains to us the start of sin and how we can end it in our lives. It explains Jesus. It has stories we can learn from. Struggles we can relate to.
To me that's why it was written. God inspired the bible, everything about it.
Hyde Parke;931299 said:And the written caused even more confusion in attempts to expain. I agree on the brainwashing aspect. If you continuously repeat the same things over and over again, you develop a relationship with that, it def becomes
a part of you. You identify with that , it almost appears as if that is where "spirituality" evolved. Connecting to a higher source, but is it really? If I burn my hand on a hot stove, there is an instant connection from my neurons firing and communicating to my brain from my hand, instantaneously. There is no need to touch it again to experience it. Yet we are trained to be repetitive. I wonder if we really understand how knowledge is dead, and we are living, breathing, ever changing beings, yet in order for some of us to live, we must, or think we must attain this thing called spiritualness by going over the same things over and over again.
ThaChozenWun;931405 said:On the aspect of spirituality, I do think to reach a higher level of consciousness you do have to repeat it. Not nearly as much as the bible or other texts indicate but I do think it does need to repeated so you can remain sharp.
Now to me at least, the books don't teach spirituality, that's why they have it being so repetitive so often. To me they use spirituality or consciousness as a front for their interior motives. Being conscious or spiritual is more about connecting with ones self and has nothing to do with an invisible supreme being, the books want you to connect with a being who no one can see nor speak to and they try to pass it off as being spiritual.
If you take Native Americans for example, they to told stories also. IMO the whole bible thing is nothing more than the same thing, a moral story. The similarities is both were well recieved and followed, stories have been passed on for generations and remembered and followed. What happened though was where as Native Americans continued telling them to teach people life lessons, the Europeans took their stories and turned them into a book so they could push their agenda, and it was much easier to attract and brainwash a following by passing books along.
ether-i-am;931766 said:Maybe it was an attempt to bring some type of morals to men who's knowledge of the objective world was advancing faster than man was gaining knowledge of self. Maybe everything man discovered about the world he failed to discover how it truly affected man and the future of man. It's the vanity of man. Idk. Just a thought outside my usual bible bashing.
Conscious212;931834 said:This is a great question. I won't necessarily say it was written to 'control' people because I don't know the why factor, or the intention behind it. We may never know. I would think some "people/societies' have secret knowledge about it. It's obvious its become a tool for control, but I wonder what it was originally meant to be for? Very good question, because even though a lot of it is bullshit there are certain areas that make you think differently but just for a fleeting passage or metaphor. Yet There are many inconsistencies, therein.Very good question
Hyde Parke;931909 said:right, exactly! we on the same wavelength. Whatever the original intent is, it is clear that has been gotten away from. MY thinking is that written vs oral communication has alot to do with that, but that just may be one part of the whole.
Hyde Parke;931702 said:On spirituality, you think repetiveness is necessary to achieve a higher level of consciousness? my view is this, a repetitive mind is a dull and bored mind. Much like watching the same movie over and over again, day in and day out, same movie, same actors, same theme, same plot. After watching that movie over and over again, the mind will look for ways to make that movie more interesting, the mind will then attempt to create something new from that movie, it will begin to imagine things, or invent something new from the original experience. All the while, not realizing that this is taking place.
If the mind is so attentive and totally aware from the original experience, there is no need to repeat it. Have you ever tried to be totally aware throughout the day, to every word spoken, every observation, every action? Not trying to hold on to all of that, but just be totally aware, to just observe, let that experience flow through, like breathing. Inhale, and exhale all of it. It is a very difficult thing to do because memory is always in the background keeping storage of all of that retained knowledge, that which was originally consciousness has become the subconscious, which is who we are, we are all of that retained knowledge, and this is how we live our lives, through that. Yet, we are a living, breathing, everchanging organism. I wonder if this makes some kind of sense. idk.
Conscious212;932032 said:It very reasonable assessment. Because whatever reason was behind it i'd like to ask the catholic church and the Byzantine emperor Constantine, why they managed to include and exclude certain theology. For example, if you haven't already; research; The Council of Nicea. Cnstantine, ironically, was a sun worshiper and introduced the concept for having jesus worshiped as the "sun/son" of God! It's a fascinating part of history, most people don't talk about,( this is the same man who also introduced the concept of the trinity). He used the concept to bridge the pagan and christian worshipers of his kingdom, it was done to increase his sphere of influence.
ThaChozenWun;932035 said:Not necessarily repetitive to maintain that ability. But yes I think you have to be repetitive to reach that point.
And No I have never went a whole trying to be totally aware of anything. But that's because during basketball I block everything out that has nothing to do with the game.
But I agree with the rest.
