cause it seemed like it didnt get alot of radio play for one i remeber hearing brendas got a baby on the radio and was like alrite i like that lol next time it comes on ill try 2 record it cause shit was 91 long before internet so i did what i had to do I do remeber seeing when my homes call a few times on yo mtv raps but wasnt until i get around came out until i found out that was the same guy who songs brendas got a baby..I was 12 i get around put him out there musically to a bigger audience but then all the crazy shit started to happen in his life the rape charges, the shootings, and that took his sales to plantium status dont get me wrong i love his cd but america loves contraverse and gangsta figure been that way since the wild west days and pac album sales reaped the benefits

not that did'nt that sexual assault case his first shooting in new york all happen after his second album when he already sold records and pac was also a movie star at that point too he was in movies like poetic justice and juice pac sold records off of talent not off street credibility

But you cant argue that the music didnt get better. Controversy wasnt the only reason

Not saying he didn't improve, because he definitely did, but to deny that the (cop shooting, rape charges, signing to Death row, beefing with Biggie, etc) didn't take his career to another level is denial. When people think of Pac, they don't only think of his music, they think Biggie beef, Death Row signing, his numerous shootings, shooting at cops, rape charges, prison term, etc.

every artist has something attached to them

when mainstream think jay they think beyonce, husband, wife, rocafella drama, def jam ceo, nas etc....

when mainstream think em, they think kim, mother hater, dr dre, psycho, etc

personal life will always play a part for the biggest and best artist...nobody gives a fuck about a borin personality with no character or appeal

but at the end of the day is the MUSIC that keeps you relevant,

Pac was always surrounded by controversy, from his first album to his last.....lets not pretend his first album had no controversy, lets not pretend he wasnt a movie star by his second album and fuckin moddonna, the most talked about bitch on the planet

the music changed CONSIDERABLY , however the controversy was always there with Pac,

If Pac had put out his first album as his 3rd solo album would it still have had the same impact as MATW? i highly doubt it

poetic justice came out 6 months after his 2nd cd was relesed and yes he was involved in sevral incdents before like the fight between his posse and another crew in marin city where a 6yr old got shot in the cross fire that was before his 2nd cd so he was involved in some shit

I would questioned that persons fandom if they said he was great because of those things. True I know for sure he does have fans like that but so do Jay, Em, Biggie. Those that are fascinated by the persons personal life rather then the music and will think everything they touch is gold because they got "swag" and or is "hot in the streets". Those artist all have them but some of us actually like to talk about the music which should be the only thing that matters to us fans.

Edit: did not see the previous post with the same comments and points

50 stopped going Platinum after the controversy got stale. If he gets shot tonight, he's going triple platinum tomorrow.

because people ignored Emenims first album
because Illmatic was a commercial dissapointment
because Reasonable doubt was a commercial dissapointment

does anybody remember Wayns first album??? I dont.

Nice thread r/t. I think Pac blew up after the first album was one main reason.... His production, he had more commercial beats that people could ride to and party to after that album. And I guess the fact that he was not as much as a social commentator on every song for the following albums. And well he started showing more personality, and more vindication in his voice when he rapped. haha here I said one main reason and went on about three different ones lol...
