We don't got any black colleges up here in Canada. I wouldn't go if I were American tho, the fuck am I gonna do with a negro college on my resume?

Therein lies the problem. As usual if its "Black" its inferior, its the mentality of the business community and its trickled into the population at large. HBCUs just aren't "good enough".

I have a solution:

Non whites should stop attending D-1 universities........

This means all athletes (football).......

Instead of earning basketweaving degrees from and being discriminated against the University of Alabama.....

These niggas should take their talents to an hsbu...........

In about 10 years one will win a national title......

And the financial problems will disappear..............

Good solution. Those white schools make billions off black athletes to play "amateur" sports. However the NCAA doesn't rate HBCUs and white D-1 schools the same way. They aren't marketed the same way, and national acceptance isn't the same.

U of M games will sell out even if there aren't any blacks on the team, just because of the prestige of the university and sports program. Its like that for a lot of schools.

smh. He already gave the black community plenty. It may not be recent but its still no reason to forget about dre. He did bring the Eazy-E's, Ice Cube's, and D.O.C's, the Snoop D-O-double-G's and the group that said mother Fuck Tha Police. but i digress.

And with everything in the news about how some HBCUs have mismanaged their money, i doubt anyone here would be willing to hand over a large sum of their own money to an hbcu, and its understandable why dr. dre might not want to give it away to watch a school form the worlds most extravagant marching band and step team

If it's not Morehouse, Spelman, Howard, or Hampton, an HBCU degree ain't gettin much pull in the working world.

LOL @ bashing a man for where he sends his kid to school. The HBCU brand has been struggling for such a long time because we have allowed it to. Not partnering with our schools financially, assisting in recruitment efforts, and leveraging our business connections is the reason why so many of these institutions are challenged. I graduated from Mizzou and the black fraternities went on a 2 semester whining binge because they did not have the housing options afforded their white counterparts. Wonder why that is? (:| Meanwhile 8 out of 10 of them just joined to learn some funky lil dance.

HBCUs are just not the same HBCUs of our parents and/or grandparents generation. During their era, these schools were more serious about educating blacks and ensuring that we would be competitive and on track for professional careers. I can't dismiss the important of these schools and a long term investment strategy to sustain them, but at this point, whose trying to send their child off to Dillard? Or Jackson State? Or Grambling? They need to get it together.

c/s to the fullest. i graduated from hampton and i've already determined im not sending my kids to hampton unless they just want to go

Yeah....

They had to integrate in order to keep their sports teams viable......

If all of their black talent up and left they would have to cower themselves and re-recriut "blacks" in order to win more of their coveted National Championships...............

Even those don't give you an edge at all unless the company is looking to fill. A quota. HBCUs are just not good schools (outside Howard maybe) that's why the top black students aren't going there

Some of you are missing the point of what makes a school good or bad.......

Guess how many niggas would go to Norfolk state if a nigga like dre was involved with engineering programs like that????

lol what makes a school a good school ?

only difference between a lot of schools is the money put into them

Majority of HBCU's have a rep for letting any-fucking-body in. I live in NC where we have a bunch of HBCU's like St. Aug, Shaw U, NC Central, NC A&T, Fayetville St, etc. St. Aug & Shaw are private so they can determine who they let in (and they ain't turning down any money) & Central & Fayetville St are basically 13th grade. I know a bunch of niggas who were C-/C students (2.0-2.5 GPA) that got into those schools. Shit, 1 of my homeboys got into Fayetville St & that nigga had to go to summer school twice in high school just to pass his grade.

See the thread about this in the reason.

HBCUs don't want their money, go see what 9th Wonder (who is a professor) has to say about the relationship between hiphop and HBCUs.

Dumb ass whining artcle, anyone with a background in music can tell you Beats aren't shit.

Also Jimmy Iovine prolly fronted most if not all of money and neither of them have any responsibility to give money to bad schools just becasue they are historically black

HBCU ≠ bad... ijs

thats not true...

Those top 4 schools were mentioned...trust me people that do go to those schools get a lot of respect. But what was said is not true. Tuskeegee and FAMU also..But I know a lot of Spelman chicks who are beasting, companies go to these schools to recruit heavy obviously because they have a quota to fill. That story about St.Augustine above is just a shame...

Morgan State >>>

Coppin... Norfolk State...

these schools are respected academically... as far as the "pull" of the degree, it depends on the field...
