You made a good point, by do you listen to music for entertainment or to hear the next man story? Some rappers I want to hear their story, but usually I listen to music for my entertainment especially while I'm in the gym.

the funny thing is music is entertainment ... but rap for me was always real life ... spoke about whats really going on ouchea ... during the 90s there was a whole KEEP IT REAL MOVEMENT ... because alot of dudes seen the rick rosses and lil waynes and the games about to be birth into the game .... cause @ the end of the day .. reguardless of the ENTERTAINMENT VALUE ... music is influential ................

sn its a little different in 2013 ... if this were the 90s yes it would just strickly about the SONIC SIDE of the music ... but today its very rare that you get just an AUDIO .... everything is visual and viral in 2013 ... you might get the music video released @ the very same time the audio is drop ... the image in 2013 is just as big as the music ..... look @ artist like Lil B ..... all image ... zero music .... same with Riff Raff and several other artist ... its more about the antics and imagery then it is about GOOD music ........ but thats rap in 2013 ... its like when the south incorporated the AD LIB ... post that damn near every rap verse has an adlibs in it ...... Nas and Jayz are prob the only 2 rap artist that dont adlib that stilll make music today ....... but its the same with the imagery .... cause with image just like with lyrics sometimes you can create contrevesy .....

and @ the end of the day alot of these artist INCLUDING rick ross play off that bs ... they no it will get a reaction out of the people ... there is no such thing as bad press (that is unless you talking about date raping woman lol) ... ijs if lil wayne can kiss another grown ass man on camera and still be considered one of the best rappers of this millennium there really aint nothing these guys cant do to ruin what they got going ... as long as they stay relevant be it bad or good press ......... and hopefully follow it up with some hit records ......

t/s you lost me when you said waynes music is still good. Nigga ain't made good music since 2007-08.

well @Monizzle So you don't like Tha Carter 4, is what you are basically saying? I personally still like his music. I'm not saying all of the songs he put out are great, but he still makes good music. If Wayne still rapped like the block is hot or lights would he still be as successful? For the record i think The Drought is Over is the best mixtape series ever i personally think (waits on reactions). What other rapper gave you so much free music before wayne did?

the issue with most aging rappers is they have new shit too above/mature the teenage fanbase age. However wayne has regressed and went the other way. Songs like fuck the world and the block is hot are more mature and complex than his narrow minded cliche subject matter on C4 and the i am not a human being albums and rebirth. I don't expect him to rap like he used to but nonetheless his current music is uninspired cliche and wack in my opinion.

If wayne dressed weird but still made good music he would be kanye west (minus yeezus). Kanye dressed weird and acts weird but he still made good music through MBTDF. Hence why ye is still considered a top tier MC by most rap fans but wayne is only considered still talented in pop and non urban target markets.

And, IMO, it makes the music and content of every song annoyingly repetitive. 17 tracks on an album talking about how you're the biggest gangster the world has ever seen, and that you're untouchable, and that you're living a life more lavish than anyone ever in history is hardly entertaining after the first few songs.

Word up. Rapping about being a thug/gangsta is the LEAST entertaining thing you can rap about nowadays. Those kind of rappers put me to sleep.

Somebody made a good point about Biggie. He had a few lines in "Juicy" about "growing up in a 1 room shack" or "birthdays were the worst days" Even if he didn't really live it it was good songwriting and I could feel what he was saying regardless if it was true or not, it was good music. However, if you made the same song nowadays I wouldn't want to hear it because I've heard it before.

Well sully nailed it there..to add to that, people relate to music so much they relate to the person..at times u feel like you know the person. Its not just "entertainment" for most. Alot of these rappers on people's top 10 lists basically have conversations with the listener over records. So if someone out here talking about stacking bricks to the ceilings and never did it..of course he will get ridiculed. Plain and simple

Black music and hip hop in particular was started as genuine rebel music so when somebody is fake for money it goes against everything hip hop was founded on.

There's a certain way you do things and even NWA would break the 4th wall and admit it was ent. even though they really were in that environment

These new niggas take the acting too far

Not sure why your talking about sucking dicks, but didnt you start this thread to get opinions? Guess the music you listen too really does indicate your intelligence level

People need to stop living their lives vicariously through hip hop n music in general. The only real person they need to worry about is themselves. The rapper you listen to isn't 100% reflective of who you are and at many times can be hypocritical.

Man, say that shit homie. That's why I laugh when cats say such and such spitting that real shit, how the fuck you know it's real. What a rapper says don't make my life but niggas swear they can relate to what they saying, and if you past that stage in life why still relate to it
