You need to watch the Beef Documentary, KRS One was definitely annoyed that modern DJs were not playing his diss. If he didnt give a fuck about the mainstream, then he wouldnt have been annoyed. man it's that new era of thinking when it comes to young hip-hop fans. They judge EVERYTHNG hip-hop related to sells instead of based on skill. Just look at the board topics...usually always something about first week sells and shit like that.

You can't mention KRS on these boards without someone mentioning Nelly based strictly on the strength of the records he sold to his pop crowd who couldn't care less about who is really lyrically better...they just wanna dance to the e-i-e-i-o stuff. Nelly said just a few bars going at KRS's age that weren't even dope and KRS went at Nelly with a few songs that straight up smashed Nelly skill wise. But these kids siding with Nelly only mention the sells as a barometer for who won and who lost. Tell a kid to google KRS's and Nelly's bars in that 'battle' and have them say with a straight face that Nelly was doper and they can't do that. Instead they'll make some corny joke about KRS's age, nose, etc and then say 'well Nelly won because he sold more'

These fans don't understand the dynamics of a rap battle and they confuse it with outside things that don't matter. A battle is scored right then and there based of who spit the illest shit. It aint about waiting months later to determine who sold more. They don't understand that shit man.

Okay..to look at it from another angle, yeah..KRS did try to battle on Nelly's turf (commercialism) and lost. But you know people are always gonna look at it from the usual Hip Hop vs. Rap perspective. And even though KRS tried his best with the "support Hip Hopdon't buy Nelly's album on June 25th" tactic KRS should've realized Nelly was on his turf(Hip Hop) when he made that point.

But everyone, including Nelly himself, knows lyrically he doesn't hold a torch to Kris..Nelly had timing and relevancy to his advantage.
