Joseph was is step/foster father if anything, so josephs' genealogy had nothing to do with the begatting (if thats a word) of jesus.. So why not use marys' genealogy?

Because Yeshua is his physical son. The Israelite concept of sonship was broader than just genetics and the term for "virgin" did not mean a woman who never had sex.

the lineage of David starts in Matthew 1:1-16)

in which almah is a hebrew feminie noun_for a girl who has reached pubert but is still under the shielding protection of her family; she is a young, marriageable (ie unmarried) girl.

In bibles, almah is typically translated as virgin,maiden,young woman, dasmel or girl, which in other words the term virgin meant a woman who is able to have children, not a woman who hasn't had sex.
